What did MoveOn expect
[Read the article: Profiles in Democratic cowardice]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The ad in question was juvenile and unnecessary to begin with. When I read about the "Betray Us" line, the first thing to go through my mind was "Ellen Degenerate".
Democrats need to fight and fight hard, but making silly puns out of someone's name is beneath the dignity of any serious politician or organization. In addition to being undignified, the attack was not necessary. Petraeus is just another pawn being used by the Cheney-Rove squad. What good could possibly come from attacking him?
What was done to John Kerry can never be allowed to happen again. Democrats can't be afraid to get their hands a little dirty fighting the lies of the right, but gleefully splashing in raw sewage is taking it too far.
MoveOn gift-wrapped this one for the Republicans. The Democratic candidates got caught in the middle. MoveON should be ashamed.

I don't get it
[Read the article: How George Bush really found Jesus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I fail to see the point of this article. It does more to confirm the authenticity of Bush's "Christianity" than refute it.
It isn't exactly news that Bush is a name dropper. He knew Billy Graham and dropped that name whenever Christianity came up. Typical Bush stuff.
Where exactly is the story here? Maybe when Bush was "saved" in 1984 he had so much blow in his system that he really doesn't remember it.
Perhaps the snippet here doesn't do the story justice, but these two pages are what we have and they seems to be much ado about nothing.

Huckabee's remarks on 12/10
[Read the article: Mike Huckabee's gay and lesbian thing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Huckabee, in remarks made today, stood by his remarks about homosexuality, but clarified his meaning. Speaking about homosexuality being a "sinful lifestyle", he defined sinning as "falling short of the mark" and saying that we ALL do it. He stated that we should treat homosexual people with respect, even though he believes their homosexuality is sinful. You may disagree, but his is a far more tolerant view than the Falwell-Rove view.
His AIDS comments were, obviously, off the mark. However, he did raise some valid points. AIDS was treated differently than other epidemics. Personal privacy and "civil rights" WERE given precedence over public health. Did people die because we protected others from discrimination? Probably.
There is no way I'd vote for Huckabee, but let's keep things in perspective.

A lot of time has gone by
[Read the article: Campaigning while female]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I do beleive that Ms. Traister is reading WAY too much into this. The issue here is not a woman's looks or a woman's aging. This is about Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton is 60. Hillary Clinton is getting OLD. I was shocked by the picture. Hillary Clinton's face came into the public spotlight when her hubby ran for president and then kind of faded into the background except for very specific events where she was professionally made-up (high profile interviews, etc...). The wrinkles are shocking because we are seeing close up that it has been FIFTEEN YEARS since the face became familiar and it changed a lot in the time that she was out of focus in the background. It is a reminder of how old we are all getting.
However, I have to say that some of the Republican comments may not be off the mark as much as one might think. It is a stark reminder that Hillary Clinton is not the young go-getter we remember her as. It also reminds us that she is part of the same "old guard" crew in Washington. The fact that she is a woman has been helpful to her because she has been able to hide her aging better than her male counterparts. Seeing her looking old takes away something that had been a selling point of sorts. Not only is she a woman, but she is a 60 year old woman. Many people haven't thought of her that way before and it could alter some perceptions, even if it doesn't immediately kill her chances as suggested.
Besides I have been saying since her college days that Chelsea Clinton would be the first woman president and I would hate to be wrong.

Hillary is NOT the "electability" candidate
[Read the article: Which Democrat is a winner?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am growing increasingly tired of the Hillary Clinton myths that the media continues to propagate. There are three major myths that really get under my skin.
The first is that she is the candidate of experience. If not for the post 9/11 political landscape she almost certainly would have run in 2004. The Senate was always just a stepping stone for her, as opposed to Obama, who was practically drafted into running at this stage of his career.
The second myth is the "strong woman" thing. She wants to show that she is a tough, independent woman, but cries about the mean old boys when things get tough. And more importantly, she is running as the "experience" candidate based on her experience as Bill's sleeping partner. Most of her endorsements cite Bill's experience, not hers.
Lastly, is the electability myth. Hillary is probably the LEAST electable Democrat running. Republicans have an unfounded, irrational HATRED for the Clintons. The lackluster Republican candidates aren't going to inspire a right wing rush to the polls, while a Hillary nomination will. And if she wins, we all lose. Unfounded rumors will be lead stories after 8 years of the media ignoring blatant White House crime.

Bill's Wife
[Read the article: CNN, MSNBC: Obama wins Iowa]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am glad to see that I am not the only one who has started to be bothered by Salon's obvious bias towards Clinton. The recent coverage has caused me to visit Salon less and less frequently. It seems that the independent news source that was so valuable in the past as an antidote to the corporate-run news has decided to become part of the problem.
I don't want a pro-Hillary version of FOX"News". I want the old Salon back.
