I am going to retch ...
[Read the article: Palin, pregnancy and the presidency]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]... if I have to read about one more wingnut applauding either Gov Palin's or her daughter's "decision" to "choose" life.
No, it's not the implicit endorsement of choice that gets me here.
It's the implication that either one of these women actually sat down and thought about what to do before deciding NOT to murder her unborn child, to use the wording they would.
Remember, these are people who supposedly consider abortion to be murder. Well, is it or isn't it? If it is murder, you don't get extra points for deciding not to do it. You don't get a gold star for just doing what is expected.
If it isn't murder, then you talk like these wingnuts have been talking. Wow, isn't that cool, she didn't abort?
Just reveals all the more clearly that not even they believe their own bullshit.

@Klytus - please get some help
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Who wrote:
@AKASmith - Insert your "ageism" securely up your uptight ass.
Mr. Klytus, even if your health insurance won't cover it, do try to see a professional about your little anger problem. We will miss your thoughtful contributions to these discussions, but in the end you will feel much, much better.

I've been a feminist for 35 years ...
[Read the article: The dominatrix]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]and I thought the article was hilarious.
You know what's sexist? The trillions of letters to Salon back in the winter and spring talking of how "polarizing" and "divisive" Hillary was. As if successful politicians by nature aren't both in spades.
You know what's also sexist? How very rarely anyone ever called anyone on this garbage.
And that's one of the things that led to Hillary's defeat. Which will in turn lead to the Dems' defeat in November. And probably to Hillary's defeat in 2012 to The Babe.
As some posters have well pointed out, the left has nothing left but humor. Neither does our country if, no, make that when, McCain and Palin take this next election.

PLEASE hire a copy editor
[Read the article: Where she was saved]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If I read this nonsensical phrase one more time I'm gonna have to vote for McCain:
"Watching Palin's speech to the Republican National Convention, Butler says she thought to herself ..."
OK, so the emphasis is mine. But what the hell does it mean? That she usually thinks "to" someone else?

She's a Rhodes scholar ...
[Read the article: Making a mockery of 9/11]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]... compared with you-know-who.

Remember Alan Keyes?
[Read the article: The pastor who clashed with Palin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]During the Hillary/Obama debacle, I was one of those arguing that gender was a greater obstacle than race to high political office. I think now I was wrong.
Remember Alan Keyes, the African American right-winger who coincidentally was the fellow Obama beat for Senate in 2004 (and who now is running a little vanity Pres. campaign of his own)? Well, think about Mr. Keyes for a minute and the times you've seen him mouthing off on the teevee. He's smart, well-spoken, and wacky as the day is long.
Yet he's no wackier in his right-wing religiosity than Gov. Palin. And can anyone even remotely imagine him on the GOP ticket right now?
Not a point that's all that central to the discussion at hand. But funny how Mr. Keyes comes to my mind every time I hear more about Gov. Palin and her God-given plans for America.

I've been there, too
[Read the article: Stillborn ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I lost my first child, a son, after 25 weeks of a seemingly normal and greatly desired pregnancy, to a condition that was entirely random, exceedingly rare, and utterly unpredictable.
Although my loss was not as devastating as a full-term stillbirth, it was the greatest blow of my life, by far and away, and remains so.
I was consumed by grief for months and months, and only began to crawl out of the black hole in which I dwelled when I became pregnant a year and a half later with my second child. Today, he is five, and I am the happiest mommy on earth.
I am heartened to know that the author too was subsequentlyy blessed with a healthy child. Although I took great advantage of every support option open to me at the time, it was that second pregnancy, and birth, that brought me back to sanity.
My best wishes to the author and to everyone who has endured such an experience.

Something Smells
[Read the article: McCain's looming debate debacle]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]From the intro to the article:
"Leading Republicans say that, short of total gridlock on the economic bailout, a McCain no-show on Friday would be 'a huge political mistake'."
Folks, the criminal enterprise known as the modern-day GOP does not make political mistakes. No doubt there is a lot more going on here than we realize, and however this shenanigan unfolds, they'll gain from it.

Repubs are serious about outlawing abortion!
[Read the article: McCain's Republic of Gilead]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just as serious as they are about finding Osama bin Laden.

It Wasn't the Choke-up, It Was the Recovery
[Read the article: Joe Biden is made of testosterone and strong verbs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am one of the few who started to cringe when Joe nearly lost it. But when he pulled back, right at the precipice, all I could think of was, This is one TOUGH guy. Soooo unlike the posturing phonies we've had to endure these dismal eight long years.

What About the Bin Laden Video?
[Read the article: The GOP goes back to its ugly roots]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Coming to a TV screen near you, sometime in very early November.
It may be the GOP's only chance left. And they may not even have to produce it themselves.
Just consider: If you were bin Laden, wouldn't you be more than a little afraid of the U.S. electing a president who actually WANTS to catch you?
God, I hope Obama's campaign is ready for this.

Shame on You!
[Read the article: Forgive me, America, for I have sinned]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In a story about sex scandals, this little gem shows up in a listing of Swaggart, Bakker, Foley, et. al:
"Some politicians, like Ted Kennedy, never quite managed to shake the taint of their scandals."
Hello? Kennedy abandoned a drowning woman, making no attempt whatsoever to rescue her or to get help from someone who could. That is not a sex scandal. That is a crime. How dare you conflate the two.

Best Advice for Some of These Folks: See a Shrink!
[Read the article: What to do with your money now]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Per the expert: "For example, let's say I make $50,000 a year, and I want to buy a $500,000 house."
Uhh, anyone who would even consider purchasing a home with a pricetag 10X their annual earnings doesn't the sense to read, much less, follow the advice of a financial expert. The kind of expert they need is a psychiatrist.
