Original article: Sympathy for Charles Graner

No Sympathy For Graner

I started to read this article but stopped before finishing page one.

Why should anyone sympathize with Graner? Because everyone else got away with it? Instead of sypathizing, why not round up everyone else? Why not seek new charges against those who got away so easily? Does he really find himself in the position as those he tortured? He is being stripped naked and humiliated? I doubt it.

What he really needs is to come to grips with the role his actions have played in the recruitment of those who have since killed his fellow servicemen. He needs to consider on what little basis the men he tortured were detained. He needs to appreciate that, while very few American servicemen in Iraq acted so disgracefully towards the Iraqi people, he and his cohorts did. They chose to. Then maybe he wouldn't think ten years was too much.

Bomb Iran?

Okay, putting aside the fact that Israel has illegal nuclear weapons and Iran does not, and putting aside the fact that Israel has never been at war with Iran and so, unlike the times it has taken action against Syria and Iraq, it would be the aggressor, what connection is there between Mumbai and Iran? Are you privy to some secret intelligence that the rest of the world hasn't seen? Let's hope the coming month sees this attempt to export the Bush doctrine - which Paglia is not alone in - come to nothing.

Predictable

This is sadly all too predictable. The Left's commitment to inclusion differs from the right only in who will be included, not in its depth or seriousness.

A, perhaps only somewhat, related question for those angered by Prop 8. California is now one of thirty states now banning gay marriage (with forty two states defining marriage in strictly heterosexual terms). My question is: why now? Were you just not paying attention? If it matters now, why weren't you mobilizing like this before?

Wait a minute...

How about a little honestly. If Simpson's new weight is so unimportant why are her defenders lying about it? She isn't a size two and she hasn't gained just seven pounds. I can understand her fans being interested in this, her whole career has been built around her looks, but I don't know why Salon is.

If the Uighurs were Christians

Actually, Glenn, Christians face a great deal of persecution in many parts of the world, including China. I don't see a lot of outcry.
