  • you know

[Read the article: In the market for a used Attorney General?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But, you know, maybe Krugman makes his own point here: Santorum and Wolfowitz got jobs at conservative "think" tanks. Gonzalez is apparently pursuing law firms. While I don't doubt that many wingnut elite are in charge of these firms, they do have a reputation to consider.

But, nevertheless, we live in a world where even Yoo is now teaching at the University of Berkeley, with blood on his hands and all. So, yea, this IS really weird. He should've gotten a job somewhere by now. Hopefully this is evidence of a sea change amongst the powerful in this country...

  • jeez what an idiot

[Read the article: McCain-onomics: Cheap gas in every tank]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

McCain is terrible. He is totally clueless. He knows nothing, he cares about nothing. The price of gas has little to nothing to do with the tax levied on it. Shouldn't he know that lowering prices will just drive up demand, almost certainly returning prices to what they were with the tax? All it does is transfer that money from the federal government (which it uses to build roads) to private gigantic oil companies. Which might be the whole point.

I think most Americans are sick of welfare for rich people. I know I am.

  • last season

[Read the article: Finale wrap-up: "The Office"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I think the show started to lose its way just a tad at the end of last season, and the hour-long episodes this season as noted, but at least it didn't drive itself into a ditch (like My Name Is Earl, which became unwatchable). They recovered nicely and that is with the strike which seems to have put more shows than just this one into a sort of haze. I still think there is too much going on for a mundane office in sleepy Pennsylvania, but hopefully they will get it figured out for next year.

I am still laughing about the Holly-Kevin interactions, though. Hilarious and what The Office does best, still does best.

  • MSNBC

[Read the article: CNN/MSNBC reporter: Corporate executives forced pro-Bush, pro-war narrative]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Isn't MSNBC also considered the most liberal of all the major networks.

    Yikes.

I wish I could say that its good to know this, better late than never, but not really. With virtually every big Iran story the networks have been fairly quick to pounce on it (for example the EPP story from last year) and it has played a big part in fizzling the momentum for the war that the White House so desperately wants. Would we have gone into Iraq had these networks done their job? I don't think so.

I hope the money these execs made can wash away the blood on their hands!

  • Charles Johnson?

[Read the article: Breaking news: There are crazy people on the Internet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

LOL. Calling it a "glass house" is being generous.

Look, as said in the original post, its too easy for a nutso to make a hate-filled rant on Obama's website, then send an email to Johnson tipping him off about the "psychos" on Obama's site. I mean, shouldn't Johnson know this? Apparently he is some sort of internets and coding expert.

And that really is all there is to it.

  • if Schilling is right...

[Read the article: Schilling on Kobe: "Pissed off and ranting"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

... it sounds like Kobe is reverting back to his 2004/"Last Season" form. A leopard cannot change its spots forever.

  • dangerous disparities

[Read the article: Land of the free, home of the underinsured]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The thing that should be said here is this health coverage system collapse affects pretty much everyone, even fairly successful mid-level executives (VPs and the like) at big corporations - the type of people making well into the six figures. If your company provides health insurance, there's a good chance you are getting less for more money than you were paying 5 years ago.

I saw an article today about the sinking home market in wealthy zip codes. They said that the medium end - $2M to $6M homes - have gotten hit hard. But the ultra-high end is setting records, still.

Its really something that should give most of us pause. A tiny slice of ultra-rich and ultra-powerful people floating high above, succeeding wildly and making more money than ever while the rest of the country crashes and burns is really something you would expect more in Russia or Mexico, not the USA.

  • The Third Man

[Read the article: Lakers beat Celtics: Was the fix in again?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Simmons has been saying it for years, and the first time I read it he mentioned how the NBA has this weird tendency to put Bennett Salvatore (one of the worst refs by his estimation) in crucial playoff turning point games. Most notably in the Dallas-Miami series (which was as horribly officiated as any other in NBA history).

So I turn on the TV at the beginning of yesterday's game, and sure enough, guess who is reffing? Yes, Bennett Salvatore!

Like Simmons or hate him, I think he's on to something.

Don't be so sensitive! Nobody is saying San Antonio is small fry. But the Spurs in the Finals has been consistent ratings poison.

I think twhicks makes a good point, people will see what fits their theories. If you want to believe Stern is a nasty crook that has rigged the league to make the WWF with hoops, fine, but you have to take all the evidence into consideration. It just doesn't fit. That's not to discount the shadiness of certain games and series... the finals between the Mavs and Heat stunk to high heaven to me. But I am not ready to say the NBA was rigging it to turn Dwayne Wade into the next MJ (hasn't really worked, huh?), as some have.

  • Jaw dropping

[Read the article: Supreme Court rules in favor of Guantánamo detainees]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

With every court decision you see the blatant activism from Roberts and Alito. I think back to the way the media fawned all over them (especially Roberts) praising them as independent, tough, with brilliant legal minds. I also remember the way the media ridiculed anyone who brought up Roberts' wingnut credentials, like his Federalist Society membership.

As many others have said, even if you are a die hard Clinton supporter who has sworn off Obama, you should take a look at this and think about what may happen with 4 years of John McCain. We will be living with these clowns Alito and Roberts long long after Bush is gone.
