Really? That's why for six years, going back at least to the PATRIOT Act, when liberals pointed out that Bush actions should be just as repugnant to conservatives as they were to liberals (and we did, over and over and over), we were the ones accused of being detached from reality, of living in a pre-9/11 fantasy world, of supporting the terrorists by every Republican with a platform, all espousing the triumphalism of conservatism, the neo-con vision, the ascendency of the red state revolution, and the moral superiority of the Christian direction of the movement--remember "values voters" of 2004?.
Heck, remember that horrible "Bush rage" all us psychopathic liberals were supposed to be afflicted with, so irrationally opposed to the wonderful leader and his brilliant, bold, far-sighted plans that we that though certified lunatic (and legitmately centrist Democrat) Howard Dean might be on to something in thinking that invading Iraq did not make us safer, and that we might be, you know, kinda angry about the enormous lost of life and the expense it entailed?
No, of course the vast majority of conservatives don't remember this. They never believed it was true in the first place. And now, when the "reality-based community" has been shown to be right about everything, from the start, it would be nice for the people who were wrong to give us a little credit. But judging from this typically whiny "even though we screwed up the entire country, it's all the liberals' fault for letting us do it," that would be an actual exercise in wishful thinking.
...to actually vomit on the Prime Minister of Japan. Look out George, you still have Oedipal issues to resolve!
...from buying this album.
If only the White House had, say, a person who could speak for them on matters that involve them directly and in which the public has a vital interest. Like, I dunno, a White House spokesperson. Then reporters could ask that person, and he or she would be able to give them answers.
Maybe reporters can ask Dana if the White House has ever considered this.
"As always, the need of that strain of individual represented by Tucker Carlson and Johan Goldberg to search endlessly for strong, powerful, masculine figures so that they can feel those attributes and and pose as one who excudes them."
Great post, Glenn (as much as I would otherwise be loath to draw lessons from Family Guy), but my inner college professor asks you to proofread this sentence:
Jonah = Johan
and = and and
exudes = excudes
Does that mean any Romney supporters in Iraq are now allowed to come home, as long as they ride around Iowa for his campaign?
I see a sudden burst of support for Romney among our troops in the immediate future!
If Rove is ever actually indicted for anything, Bush will say he was "just an acquaintance" that he had "only occasional contact with."
In fact, he'll barely remember the guy, and certainly he had no influence whatsoever over any decision making in the White House.
"Give me liberty, or give me death."
...always a difference between what they do and what they intend to do. No matter how clearly they seem to be saying one thing, rest assured they will do another.
This also puts another spin on Glenn Greenwald's column earlier this week: Republicans not only believe one of their own is innocent after proved guilty (as in Scooter Libby), but they believe they're innocent after they plead guilty.
Gives a whole new meaning to Fourth Meal.
We would if Focus on the Family represented the party in control of both houses of congress and the sentiments 65%-75% of the American people in polling since before the last midterm election.
Just like that other socially-directed security program, called, um... "Social Security"! People hate that thing! Those checks the elderly get every month? Illusions! That money people cash them for to pay for food and heat and rent? Not real!
Oh wait, it's not people who hate that "illusory security." Just Republican government officials.
If you want to see real illusory security, watch Michael Moore's "Sicko," Karl. Think health insurance actually insures people's health? Think again. But then, you already knew that.
I wonder if the General, who is the General, would agree with John McCain's war assessment: "It is what it is."
Of course, we could ask the President, since it's his job. And as he told an audience once, "My job is to do my job."
I guess there really is no question for Republicans about what the definition of "is" is.
*Some restrictions may apply.
Remember when it killed all those civilians in Iraq? Unspeakable! And conducted torture at Abu Ghraib prison? It's out of control! And lied about WMDs, then botched the post-war occupation? Outrageous!
If the Democrats are really serious, they would immediately start hearings to impeach the MoveOn ad, which has so clearly betrayed the principles it was elected to uphold.
NAILED HER!
...about how quickly and cleanly you deal with those in your party who break the law, but the Democrats make them committee chairs?
Craig is available for Chair duty -- hook him up! Wouldn't be any less hypocritical at this point.
If you don't understand how the government works, you don't get to run for president.
Any way we can make this rule retroactive to 2000?
Terwilliger? As in Sideshow Bob?
Actually, that explains a lot.
"Don't you have a tatoo that says 'Die Habeas Corpus Die'?"
"No, it's German for 'The Habeas Corpus The'"
"Ohhhh.... Anyone who knows German can't be all bad."
...to criminality and incompetence is actually a pretty good guiding principle. Too bad the Democrats aren't actually guided by it.
Cocaine!
