No POTUS will allow an investigation - his successors could then come back at him. POTUS knows there will be problems in Afganhistan, maybe N Koria, maybe Iran - he wants his back covered after his time.
"War on terror" unfortunately carries the connotation of the Geneva Convention (which only works if both sides adhere).
Interrogation is a part of war - always has been - always will be. There is no black and white - only black - innocents die - injustice reigns - extreme means are employed - that's the way it is.
Learn the true nature of "Jihad" - God's war (Allah's that is) and there is no end, no surrender, no humane treatment other than to kill the infidel (you and me) - and live by shiria law happily ever after.
Move on toward the solution of other problems like the economy, health care, political corruption, etc.
The unhappy fact is that the more destructive the attack, the shorter the road to peace (Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki). I don't like it but history supports it.
@ Normbreyfogle -
Hey, have you ever been a soldier in one of your previous lives?
How about a cow? (Come to think of it, isn't a cow revered? Norm, you might have been a god in a former incarnation.)
I want justice as much as the next guy and I know enough to understand that all in life is not fair.
Just like the concensus on man-made global warming. I am all for a clean planet and the like.
But -- for someone to think they can control the weather and tax (cap & trade) only part of the world to make it happen has been smoking funny cigarettes. Even Nature' God disagrees with that logic.
BTW - answer me this, when has consensus ever changed a scientific fact?
There was once a consensus that the world was flat - oopps - so don't argue the consensus on global warming - you might fall off the world!
@ Norm,
Suppose we gather the evidence,
suppose we believe the incarcerated at Gitmo,
suppose we prosecute the guilty and every last one from W on down to the lowliest private who pulled guard duty in Cuba is found guilty
suppose we jail all their butts for as long as possible as an example.
What will that get us?
There will still be war.
There will still be torture and injustice.
On the battlefield, will the US soldier take a prisoner if he knows he may be accused of torture between the time of capture and the hand off to the intelligence officer - or will he say, "this so and so tried to kill me and bang - no more prisoner.
It seems all your posturing and declarations of righteousness and truth will get you little other than an opportunity to "crow" (sorry, I could not resist that) about your advanced society. The rest of the world will condemn the US when we are perceived to have done wrong and ignore all that we do right.
A wise man once said, "take the log out of your own eye before you try to remove the spec out of another's eye.
NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW huh!
You ever break the speed limit Beauford P. ?
You ever steal a little something?
You ever touch what isn't yours to touch?
Thank your lucky stars Nature's God doesn't look straight in your eyes and qoute you: NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW!
Listen buddy, your very name condemns you - "Judge not lest you be judged." Same wise guy said this one too.
Good point about ability to choose.
Now let me ask you Norm, have you ever been in the crucible of a life and death decision?
And if so, have you followed your high standards to which you hold our military and intelligence services?
Have you ever made the wrong choice about anything in your life?
If so, and I hope you are honest enough to say yes, when no one was watching I touched, I tasted, I appropriated, I lashed out in anger.
And if you happened to commit a crime, maybe stretching a little too far on your tax returns - whatever -
Have you then "chosen" to stand like a man and hand yourself over to the proper authority and submitted yourself to proper and lawful castigation.
If this is not a consistant pattern in your life yet you expect if from others, then I spell Norm this way - hypocrite!
Signed,
A bigger hypocrite than you!!!
What we do right? Is that your question?
Look at history in the last 100 years . . .
We were attacked by Japan; we fought back and revived their nation.
We were attacked by Germany; we fought back and revived their nation.
We spent our life's blood for Kuwait and they are free.
We spent our life's blood for Iraq and they are now free.
We spend our money in foreign aid constantly.
When natural disasters occur - we are there, whether its tital waves, earthquakes, floods, etc.
The list of wrongs done by the US is equally long, sometimes grevious mistakes.
However there is something that sets us apart from other nations, that has allowed us to accomplish what we have in less than 300 years -- what do you think it is?
