Most of it was dead-on... except that ludicrous paragraph about the Clintons. What is WRONG with people?! It's not only ridiculous, it's tiresome. And I wish these folks would take a step back and hear themselves; how monotonous, paranoid and shrill they sound. One really must wonder what "jealous vindictiveness" is at work behind the scenes, that makes people like Ms. Dowd hate the Clintons so.
I was also in favor of Caroline Kennedy's candidacy, and disgusted by the ensuing fiasco. But not to the point that I'd stoop to paranoid delusions like this to explain it away. Why, that would make me... Blago! Look inward, Ms. Dowd.
Yet when she finally gets to open her mouth, he keeps telling her to "give it a rest." And what exactly did she say that was "prattle"? What a condescending, sexist a$$hole. And Matthews should have demanded that he either be civil or shut his mouth.
The whole thing disgusted me. As did the very idea of being that abusive pig's wife. Could you just IMAGINE the horror?
But I really am doing my best to see the humor in it, as disgusting as it was.
Ms. Walsh, I'm also glad you could never be his wife. No intelligent, independent-minded woman with an ounce of self-esteem could ever be his wife.
Count me as another proud member of the "Could Never Be Dick Armey's Wife" club. We are legion.
If I HAD to go to this thing, I'd probably just hang out with Eleanor Holmes-Norton and maybe Dick Durbin all night. I'm sure I wouldn't get anywhere near the president. Actually, come to think of it, Malia, Sasha and Michelle would be a much better bet than this bunch. Sheesh.
(Only FOUR senators?! WTF?)
THANK YOU! I wanted to jump through my TV set and strangle Michelle Bernard last night, not for the first time. Once again, she proved her complete ignorance of the subject she's paid to pontificate on, and total lack of ability to scratch the surface. She's Little Miss Blame the Victim. Just your average conservative, I suppose.
Recently, this *ahem* "political analyst" admitted she had NEVER HEARD of Barack Obama before he spoke at the 2004 convention. She said she was like "who is this guy??" Look, I totally understand that you'd have to be a political junkie to have heard of him, and that Average Joe would not be expected to know him... but a political analyst?? That's unforgivable. I'm nobody, and I was looking FORWARD to that speech. I, a New Yorker, had already donated to his Senate campaign, and knew he would be president one day (though admittedly not this soon). And I'm certainly not a political analyst for a major news network. Let alone a BLACK one! How on EARTH could he have NOT been at least on her radar?
That chick burns my butt. With a flame this high.
I got an email from a friend in Turkey about this yesterday, and she said that even Turks like herself who do not like or support him were proud he stood up and said what he did.
Now your average Turk is waiting for Israel to start bombing the crap out of them in "self defense." What a sad state of affairs.
And unlike my counterparts on the other side of the aisle, I make no distinctions between a Republican administration and a Democratic one when it comes to demanding that my government do better than this. I don't care who you are, what party you're from and whether or not I voted for you... this is NOT acceptable.
We were promised that the despicable policies of the previous administration would not be continued, yet we're getting more of the same. I understand things take time, but I expect to see progress, not status quo or regression. Where does this finally end? And how will it ever end if we never begin to move in the right direction?
President Obama is, in fact, a Constitutional scholar. You don't have to "publish legal scholarship" to be a scholar. Indeed, you can hardly teach Constitutional Law (especially at a well-respected institution) without having studied the subject in great depth, i.e. a scholar... defined as "a specialist in a particular branch of study; a distinguished academic."
...goes on TV once again to smugly sneer that women don't "need" this. It's BAD for women!! And she certainly doesn't need the government to stand up for her, she can stand up for herself!
Typical right-wing attitude, which is at the heart of why I can't stand them... "I don't need this, therefore it is not necessary for ANYONE." "I don't believe in this, therefore it should not be an option for ANYONE." "I do believe in this, therefore it should be legally required for EVERYONE." ME, ME, ME, it's all about ME and what I believe in. Freedom of choice is not an option. There should BE no options. There's the right way and then there's... well, nothing. There's only one right way and it's our way, and that should be the law of the land. NO OPTIONS.
Lucky Ms. Bernard, she wants for nothing. SHE is in a good position, so screw everyone who isn't. Typical. As is the petulant whining that she and her selfish "we don't need this" ilk were not invited to participate in this initiative that she not only believes is unnecessary, but bad for women. But I guess she wouldn't be a good conservative if she wasn't a self-centered hypocrite who thinks she should make the rules even when she's boycotting the game.
