said - "I see rights of White people being trashed like never before". ??? When have the rights of white people in the U.S. been trashed? And the Jew comments are beyond acceptability. Will this comment get removed from the forum?

SueNJ97

I was away recently for two weeks, not anywhere near a TV, computer or newspapers. My it was restful.

I wasn't that far away, also during Italian elections - I was in Malta!

on Reliable Sources, CNN, this morning did talk with his panel about an article in the Post about racist comments made to campaign volunteers, etc., but there was no mention of Parker's opinion piece.

Deleting posts

I'm all in favor of deleting rude and obnoxious posts and encouraging reasonable and civil discussion. Also, sorry to say, GoodCelery's posts - there's so many of them, they take up so much room, and they make no sense.

Voicevote's header - Diagnosis: An irresistible impluse to be clever and critical

That could be the diagnosis for what's annoying about the letters' section. And most of us aren't any better at it than Mr. Kristol. (I vote for a [however lightly] moderated letter dept.) (Though that may not be practical in terms of outlay of energy required...)

"It's not about class. It's about sexism and misogyny. Any woman who does not think words matter when a man speaks to her or of her is a fool."

Haha, when I skimmed this I read "tool" for "fool". Good term for obnoxious gentlemen. (With possibilities for extending - as in McCain being a tool of the Repug agenda...)

For Metasailor (and others) - it seems reasonable to say that terms don't matter the same way concrete things (like bicycles and cars, whatever) do. But people aren't entirely reasonable beings, and words matter...removing "nigger" from polite discourse has changed the atmosphere, and facilitated the improvement in race relations (which are not perfect, but much better than in the n-word days).

Making "bitch" as unsayable in public (and it's been used several times in public about Clinton, and the n-word NEVER in public about Obama) would be a step forward. (Finding equivalents that are 'okay' to say about men doesn't seem like the way to go.) (Being civil, even when you despise someone, makes for, well, civilization - and I for one would like to see a lot more of it on these discussions....tho [at least as far as I've read so far, which is as far as fool/tool] this particular discussion has been quite civil despite strong feelings being expressed.) (DON'T MAKE ME CRY!)

said "Why indeed?

So with these kinds of numbers, Weiss takes time to explore the topic of open marriage and the question of why we don't have a more liberal view when it comes to affairs. As Susan Squire, author of the upcoming book "I Don't," says, "Why does society consider it more moral to break up a marriage, go through a divorce, disrupt your children's lives maybe forever, just to be able to fuck someone with whom the fucking is going to get just as boring as it was with the first person before long?"

Because women run and control 'society'.

Unless men are lavishly wealthy, and thus able to BUY their freedom from typical societal (WOMEN'S) strictures, men are largely pawns.

Remember, for women, sex is NICE but optional. For men, something women will NEVER comprehend, it is an innate drive, like FOOD, or WATER.

If soeicty were controlled by men, we would have a much different tenor and atmosphere."

####This has perhaps been addressed further along the thread (I haven't got a life, but I still can't keep up with the discussions), but I suspect you are confusing your own feelings about your own experiences with the larger situation. Twas men who made the marriage rules ages and ages ago, and men who enforced them. Maybe it's only recently that women have had enough 'power' to try to get men to be faithful the way women were forced to be.

Women are the people who set up the society in which we live?

Women are the chief lobbyists in Washington?

Women are the holders of most positions of power?

Women are the chief perpetrators of domestic violence?

Anyway, I agree with Tina - go write your books. There will be a market for them.

No, but there will be LESS ugliness. Every little bit helps...
