I Agree, Emily

I agree with what you said about this becoming an anti-choice culture which is definately not the same as pro-life culture.

I also find this quote by a supposed "pro-lifer" very telling: I take it back. Some "people" do deserve to be sawn into pieces. They can first be prepared by being doused in a caustic solution. After all, they're a parasite on my society.

Anyone else find this quote a tad hypocritical and rather disturbing?

Alec Baldwin

When I heard the recording at the tmz.com website, I was shocked. Not only was I shocked by how obviously frustrated Baldwin was, but also hearing that voicemail was a painful reminder of the times I had gone off on parents, lovers, former friends, etc. Thank God no one had ever recorded me!

I am not condoning Baldwin's choice of language but who amongst us has never gone off on someone we loved? It's easy to wag a finger at Baldwin but what sort of parent would leak that tape to the public like his ex-wife is alledged to have? Even if the child had wanted it leaked, it was the responsiblity of her mother to say no out of the kid's best interest.

If Baldwin is a bad parent, then that is up for a judge to decide that. It should not be left up to the public and certainly not to the media to decide.

Original article: Bush's favorite historian

Hate to nitpick but

"Horne didn't vote for British Prime Minister Tony Blair".

Neither he nor anyone else, except in Blair's district, voted for Blair. In a parlimentary system, the party in the majority elects the Prime Minister. The PM is not nor ever has been directly elected.

Not Surprised

I lived in Mr. Blair's Britain for 2 years. I knew people who worked in his government and knew him. His comments come as no surprise to me or them. The thing I always found scary about Blair is that he really seems to believe his own hype. The editors of the brilliant PRIVATE EYE magazine were spot on in their parody of him as an a holier-than-thou vicar. A lot of people talked about Bush and the neo-cons having a messiah complex but I always thought Blair's was far greater.

My Problem With This

What's the big deal? We read and enjoy Greco-Roman, Asian, Middle Eastern and Norse mythology; we admire and appreciate great and lesser works of literature, art and music based on these themes; we find fascinating and worthy of study Native American as well as African and other indigenous traditions and beliefs. Why should Judeo-Christian mythology be any different?

I don't have a problem with myths but this 'museum' is trying to pass this off as science, and that's my problem with it.

UnEasy Is Correct

The advice that the debtor may not have to pay back her loan flies in the face of everything I have ever heard or read. Student loans are not covered by bankruptcy. Indeed, I believe that they haven't been for at least 20 years. I was roommates with a woman who defaulted and they did end up filing a lien against her.

Time to Stop

I was 4 years old when I watched 'The Wedding of The Century' on TV. Diana was the first celebrity that I can ever recall showing an interest in and I devoured articles about her and her life starting from the age of 10. I remember exactly were I was when she died. With that said, a decade has passed and it is time for the media to move on and end Dianamania once and for all if only to stop making stars out of the people like the creepy Paul Burrell and her mediawhore of a brother Charles who still appears to be making money off his late sister's name.

Re: This is Why it Bugs Me

Hate to deflate your theory but here's the truth.

Henri Paul was not a employee of Diana's. He was employed by the Ritz owned by Mohammed al-Fayed. The decision to drive to Dodi's flat was apparently last minute not pre-planned. Neither British Intelligence or anyone else for that matter could have known he was going to drive Diana. From what I gleaned this was the first and only time that Paul ever drove Diana.

The sole survivor was the only one wearing a seat belt. Had Diana wore hers she would be alive today.

The Big Question

Will the celebs and fashionistas who are dumb enough to buy these bags actually use them when they drive their gas-guzzling cars to the shopping center before going back to their 5,000 square foot McMansions?

Original article: Bashing Elizabeth Edwards

Absurd

Elizabeth Edwards did not ask Ann Coulter to stop writing columns or books. She did not try to stop her from expressing her opinions. All Ms. Edwards did was ask Coulter to stop with the personal attacks which, I agree with, were uncalled for. What exactly does Wade Edwards' death have to do with any of the election issues? If Coulter cannot criticize a politican's policies rather than try to go after them personally then that says more about her albilites or rather lack there of than anyone else's.

Original article: No apologies, Katie Couric!

CBS Made a Mistake

Add me to the list of those who never considered Couric to be a serious journalist let alone a good TV presenter. Quite frankly, I was baffled by the attention she received on the TODAY show as I was always of the opinion that Matt Lauer and Ann Curry were far more talented. CBS's decision to hire her and pay her an estimated $75 million to present the news was a stupid move and now they are paying the price. The execs can market her anyway they wish but at the end of the day, all the PR in the world cannot make up for her lack of talent.
