Mountains out of Molehills

If Neal Pollack really wanted to avoid this drama then he could have 1. Lied to Momma and told her that Elijah was circumcised. 2. Said nothing and if she had asked, told her it was none of her business.

I suspect that Pollack did not ask for his mother's input on other issues regarding his son's birth, medical care or child care. The fact is, he and the wife, not Momma, are the ones raising this kid and thus, they are the ones in charge.

Also, as someone else pointed out, this is the same kid who was later expelled from pre-school for biting his classmates. Instead of worrying about his penis, perhaps Pollack and his wife should have been more concerned with teaching him how to act like a functioning member of society though I am sure being the *star* of Daddy Dearest's columns will have a far more lasting negative impact on him then being thrown out of pre-school.

Re: Editrix

"And Neal is a funny man - can we agree on that?"

Er, no. Sorry but I have read his columns, and I don't find the man funny at all. Annoying and narcissist perhaps but not finny.

Also, it is hilarious to read all these letters that suggest that not circumcising a boy will lead to all these problems. Sorry, but the majority of men in the world are not circumcised and there is not a worldwide epidemic of the problems that are cited on here.

BTW, I lived in England for years and it is rarely done there outside of the Jewish and Muslim communities. Again, no epidemic of penile problems there either or at least none that I have heard of.

Sad

ANS was a loud, trashy, brazen woman but I liked her. At the very least, she proved time and again she was resourceful. The fact is the odds were against her from the start: At age 19, an age when a lot of people are ending their freshman year of college and have yet to be exposed to the brutalities of life, she was a high school drop-out with a failed marriage and a small child to take care of. Instead of sitting on her rear and bemoaning her situation, she actually went out and supported herself and her child. To those who turn their nose up at her choices-stripping, modelling for PLAYBOY-you are lucky to have the education and resources so that those are not your only options to a better life.

As far as her marriage goes, she certainly was not the first nor the last woman to have married for money and security. Lots of people from the Upper East Side to the trailer park have done the same. If her octogenerian hubby wanted to leave her all his money than that is his business-at least she was not stealing from an employeer a la the Tyco executives and Ken Lay whose actions affected hundreds if not thousands of people. In the end, rest in peace, Anna Nicole.

Sarahkay: "Nonsense. Millions and millions of unmarried women are raising children with regular jobs and haven't had to turn to the seedy options Smith did. Anyway, nobody would have had any issue with her working in a strip joint if she had done so responsibly, saved her money and raised her kids, etc."

What is your defination of a regular job? Most jobs require at least a 4 year degree. She was a high school dropout who did not even obtain her GED. Her options were limited at best. Even with a full-time, minimum wage job she would not have had enough to make ends meet. As far as her 'saving money' who or what did she have to teach her about IRAs, 401Ks or anything like that? She was probably very ignorant about the whole concept of saving money in general.

Also, based on what I have read, she did raise her kids. They were in her care.

On the subject of rightful heirs

Sarakay: The 'rightful' heir in this case, the late J. Pierce Marshall, was far from a 'nice' guy. Do the research if you want. It sounds like he 'screwed' his own brother out of his 'rightful' inheritance. In any event, I stand by what another poster said: It is up to the owner of an estate to determine his or her rightful heirs. If her late hubby wanted to leave her all his money, then so be it. It was his alone to give away.

And yes, there are people who lack the skills to even get a GED. No one is denying that ANS would not have been better off to have been better educated and gotten a so-called respectable job. Still, she did make do with she had and was able to support her kid. Far better than sitting on her behind and bemoaning the hand she was dealt in life.
