I have spent a lot of time online this morning perusing the news sites and so far, there is no hard evidence that this plot was going to occur next week. Perhaps they were and all arrested are as guilty as sin but the truth is, nothing so far presented have proved that beyond a shadow of doubt. The British and US government should resist patting each other on the back until more evidence comes to light.
BTW, in response to what another poster mentioned, Paki IS a derogatory term in the UK and I am amazed that none of Bush's handlers pointed this out esp. as those comments will probably be reported in Britain.
I am amazed how CNN and some other mainstream media outlets are claiming that this should defuse the cloud of suspicion that has hung over the Ramsey family. Obviously, this guy's story has more holes in it that Swiss cheese. According to those who know him, he has been obsessed with this story for years. Much has been made over the fact that he once lived near the Ramsey family in Atlanta but they moved to CO when JonBenet was still a baby.
My two cents: He is 'confessing' to avoid serving time in a Thai prison and/or wants the fame that will come with being named the killer in one of the most bizarre and overrated murders in the past 20 years.
I believe the first daughter's death in a car accident was an accident. Still, I belive in Occam's razor: It makes more sense that someone in that house killed that child than the stranger theory.
I can see why the media picked up on this case because truthfully, this is stranger than any fiction, but why the media has continued to follow this for nearly a decade still baffles me. Also, it troubles me that despite the holes in Karr’s story and the suggestion that he may be mentally unstable, many in the media seem to act like this is an open and shut case.
I thought at first that Karr could be some sort of nutter but maybe he isn’t. Maybe, just maybe, this is a social experiment of sort to demonstrate just how screwed up the modern media is. It may sound stupid but no more so than parents who dress their 6 year old like she’s auditioning for a re-make of Pretty Baby and think that there is nothing wrong with that.
Yes, there daughter was murdered and that is sad, but do you not think that the parents brought this criticism on themselves by putting their kid out there for attention a la those creepy baby beauty contests? If someone doesn't like media attention, then they shouldn't put themselves out there in the first place.
What does me having or not having children have to do with this? I am not answering your question because it is none of your business and irrelevant to the discussion.
FACT: This family did dress their daughter up like a call-girl and placed her in PUBLIC child beauty contest. Based on what I read, the child was well-known in that culture.
As far as my incorrect use of 'there' unfortunately, there is not an edit button on here. Oh, gee! I made a grammatical error! BTW,if this is going to turn into a slagging match over grammar then find someone else to play.
No doubt one of the grammar police will note I left an 's' off 'contests'.
I read this article and don't get the hysteria. Yes, these coffee milkshakes aren't health food and never will be, but compared to the junk found at the average fast-food chain, they aren't that bad. As many readers point out, most of these kids spend their time in these places talking, reading, and typing away on their laptops. Most aren't consuming an endless stream of these things.
I (along with most people I know) ate and drank a lot of junk as a teen. It didn't kill me and as I got older, I gradually replaced my bad habits with healthier ones. IMO, it's much easier to wean oneself off caffeine than nicotine.
I don't want to get over it. I work in the real world, have a mundane life, etc. and this trainwreck known as TomKat is just too good (or maybe bad?) not to watch. It's like seeing a Fellini film in real time without having to pay admission.
but there is nothing about this child that screams 'Tom Cruise's DNA.' She looks like she COULD be related to either parent but hey, it is possible for unrelated people to resemble each other. i.e., Not too long ago, I had lunch with my co-worker and his adopted daughter. I had at least 3 people walk up and tell me how much 'my daughter' looked like me and how we even had the same cheekbones.
I almost choked on my tea when I read that! Seriously, I have never seen a couple who wanted publicity more than TomKat. How many people do you know hold a press conference to announce they are engaged?
Oh, and as far as being a "lay expert" on fertility, then please explain why Mimi Rogers failed to fall pregnant but did so with another man?
