esp. the bit about attending junior college then transferring, but I wonder how many kids are aware of this? Most 18 years olds cannot wait to go away and have the so-called college experience. When you are 18, being $10K, $20,or even $30K in debt may not seem like a big deal esp. when you have visions of landing that dream job and raking in the big bucks. The truth is, a degree from anywhere does not guarantee a fab career or a big salary-esp. in these times.
As some who is 32 and still paying off my loans from a very well-known university I wish someone had told me about this. I came from a family were I was the first to go to school. You can say I should have done the research even though I was largely ignorant of the entire process and did not even have 'net access at the time. I just wish someone had taken the time to explain this all to me.
It seems that for the past year, all of Paglia's columns for salon.com can be summed up as following: Palin great-anyone who fails to see that is an elitist, talk radio good-Rush and co. appeal to the "real America", Obama and the Dems not good.
Really, Camille, find some new topics.
I'd like to think that there is no way in hell this woman could run for dog catcher and win, but there is a very real chance she could occupy a national office. Eight years of George W. Bush proved to me that yes, the American public is that dumb.
As long as the media pays attention to this woman and hypes her as the next big thing, she is not going to go away. Frankly, I hope John McCain chokes on his Metamucil for ever introducing this woman to the larger public.
Why was Susan Smith's name included with that of Yates and the DC? Based on the evidence, Smith's decision to kill her two sons had a lot to do with the loss of a boyfriend who made it very clear he did not want to be involved with a woman with children. Also, neither of her sons were infants. (I believe the younger one was over a year old.)
Sanchez and Yates were clearly mentally ill whereas it was never proven that Smith was.
No wonder Tatum has issues!
Ya know, it's saying something when even Ann Coulter thinks these birthers are a bunch of loons.
Lady Gaga's music is my currently my fav guilty pleasure. Like another reader said, I don't care if she's gay, straight, or transgendered. It has zero impact on me liking her music and thinking she's a really good entertainer.
I followed this when it first broke months ago in the UK press. There were columns taking Julia Myerson's side and those taking her son's. My sympathies lie with the son and his sibling. Frankly, I think HE should write a book about growing up with those nutbag parents of his.
Also, I hope Aylet Whatsherface aka Mrs. Michael Chabon is reading this and taking notes.
I feel The Guardian shares some responsiblity in the explotation of Myerson's children. When I lived in the UK in the late 1990s, it was the paper I subscribed to, and they lead the way in parents revealing all about their underaged kids way before the blogging revolution. IIRC, the worst offenders were Luke Harding-who apparently thought the public needed to know about "little Tilly's" potty-training efforts and Matt Seaton & his wife, the late Ruth Picardie. I actually wrote a letter to the editor asking if any of these so-called serious journalists ever thought how this may come back to haunt their kids.
I read some of the Myerson's anon. columns and was appalled. It was obvious that people who knew this family could figure out who they were given the amount of detail she provided about them.
It's a bit ironic that salon is writing about this esp. when Ayelet Waldman had a column and several readers raised questions about her violating her children's privacy. (I recall one column in particular where she revealed her young son like to dress in a peignoir.) There was also a feature in salon within the last year about Waldman's lastest memoir about her kids and the fact that she even quoted a lot of the letters salon readers criticizing her columns.
Perez Hilton is an attention whore. He makes no bones about that. I use to read his blog, but now go to D-Listed which IMHO at least is far better.
Still, in this case I don't think it is correct to label Hilton as a child pornographer. Demi Moore has paraded her children before the public eye since they were babies. They are public figures. I don't believe anyone who is familiar with Hilton's blog took the comments or suggestions he made about Tallulah Willis seriously.
Also, while the comments about her oldest daughter, Rumer, may be rude and crude, Rumer Willis is an adult and is actively pursuing an acting career and media attention.
Frankly, this sounds more like a cat fight between two divas than anything serious. . .
If you are the 15 year old daughter of two celebrities and go out in public dressed in a low-cut top sans bra like Ms. Willis, then you should expect the bloggers' catty comments. It isn't like these photos were taken in Ms. Willis's home or even at the private home of a friend. I may not agree with Perez Hilton's comments, but you would think someone who has lived her live in eye in the public since birth would exercise a bit more sense.
For that matter, aren't all the Palin's up as well?
The fact that Levi Johnston is getting offers to pose for PLAYGIRL and the fact that his baby momma, Bristol, was on the cover of PEOPLE a few months ago is all the proof anyone needs that we are truly living in a tabloid culture.
