Rebecca Traister's article points out all the reasons why I, a life-long Democrat, and so many others have a problem with Caroline Kennedy's bid for the Senate seat. Comparing her to other professional women who chose to opt out for whatever reasons is absurd. Really, it's more than apples and oranges. It's more like apples and rocks.
No matter what you think of Hillary or Obama, the truth is they came to the Senate with more experience than Ms. Kennedy and actually did something with their law degrees.
Also, after reading her interview with the NY Times from a few weeks ago, I still have no idea what Ms. Kennedy feels she can bring to the people of NY as Jr. Senator nor do I think she makes a compelling case as to why she is best for the job. Honestly, I was more than a bit surprised by how inarticulate she comes across esp. given her educational background.
Why is Sarah Palin still being treated by the MSM like she matters? McCain lost the election, Palin is not VP-her 15 mins should have ended a long time ago.
that Ms. Dati gave birth via a C-section. Debate aside, I don't know of any OB/GYN who would advise that a woman go back to work so soon after major abdominal surgery.
I agree that it was Ms. Dati's choice to return to work but don't applaud this woman for that decision esp. since she may have very well been putting her health at risk by doing so.
She does not have a husband or a partner. She is a single-woman who chose not to reveal the idenity of the father. In fact, the UK-press quoted her as saying something along the lines that she would not have felt complete had she not had a child which makes her decision to return to work 5 days after giving birth via C-Section all the more odd IMHO.
who is going to buy this tome? I doubt her hardcore fans would "waste" money on something like a book. I guess that just leaves Camille Paglia to gush over it in an up-coming column.
why I avoid most blogs like the plague.
It's true that Jessica Simpson is better known for her looks than any "talent" she may have but with that said, her sister has a point. Why was this a headline on a news site? With everything else that is going on, doesn't Faux have better things to cover than Ms. Simpson's size?
Nadja Suleman an object of scorn not out of "a response to her being a woman who's transgressed cultural norms" but as someone who had has 14 children that she appears emotionally and finacially unable to care for and seems to expect someone other than herself to provide for them.
As a feminist, I could careless if she has 14 or 40 children as a single mother. However, why should the over-burden taxpayers of CA be expected to provide for these children? (And I say this a liberal no less.) Suleman MADE the choice to undergo IVF despite having 6 children and no viable source of income, she MADE the choice of going public and asking the public for donations via her website. Ann Curry did not track this woman down. Rather, as I understand it, Suleman wanted to tell her story and the arrangements were made via her publicist.
Question: If Suleman was a man and fathered 14 children despite having no job or means to support them, would Ms. Harding be still feel the urge to defend Suleman and make this into a gender issue?
Well-written article, Ms. Traister.
Now I am just waiting for the usual suspects to start their flamewars and the chorus of, "Leave this family alone!" while ignoring the fact that Bristol Palin willing gave this interview.
I don't know about everyone else, but wish this entire family's 15 minuts were up Bristol's and her bf's esp.
Didn't take long for the flamewars to start.
Now where's mike whatshisface to further twist things and tell everyone who doesn't think the Palins symbolise all that is great with American that they should all be ashamed?
For all those who claim that the MSM media "dragged" Bristol Palin into the spotlight what do you say about her choice to be in the spotlight now of all times?
Really, why should anyone be interested into what this teenager has to say about her situation or anything for that matter? Her mother is not VP, the story of the birth of her son is yesterday's news esp. since the crazy woman has given birth to octuplets and God knows, the economic situation in the US and rest of world is providing more than enough news. So why appear on a national news program now of all times? If you believe that she felt like she was being "trashed" then wouldn't it have made more sense for her to say something at the time rather than months later?
Maybe I am just speaking for myself but frankly, I could go my whole life without ever seeing or hearing about Bristol Palin or any other members of her family.
