Considering this is the Republicans we are talking about and Karl Rove is McCain's advisor I would guess lower than a snake's belly.
Whenever the Dems are ahead the Republicans resort to name-calling and mud-slinging of the lowest sort. If God forbid, the Republicans steal this one, Palin will be the new poster girl for the GOP. If Obama wins, then McCain can blame his loss on her and not the party he has so blindly supported for all his career.
I read stories like this and think it is just going to get worse. The fact is, we have no social safety net in this country unless you count prison. We hear a lot about people losing their homes and jobs but seldom is it asked what happens to them or where are they going to go. It's also hard to tell people to hang in there and keep going when they are in black hole were they cannot see a way out. I wonder if any psychologists or sociologists are studying this, because I would be iterested to know if the suicide rate has increased since the fall out on Wall Street and the rise in unemployment.
There are countless reasons to dislike Palin but her family is not one of them. Personally, I could care less if one or all her children has Down's. At least she had the choice to decided whether or not have him which is something she would be more happy to deny other women including her own daughters.
Also, having a Down's child does not make her a hero. People of all stripes have special needs children and many are not as fortunate to be in the position Palin is in to ensure that he has the best therapies that money can buy.
If anything, I found it slightly disgusting how Trig was used as a prop. The Republicians had no problems claiming Bill and Hillary used Chelsea as a prop at the height of the Lewinsky scandal so why not call a spade a spade here and call Trig the Political Baby of 2008?
I watched the interview. I did not get the impression that Dupre was claiming to be a victim in any way, shape or form.
Like others have pointed out, she did not "bring down" Spitzer. He did that himself. If it hadn't been her, it would have been another call girl.
For a long time, I thought I was the only one who was distracted by Kidman's lack of facial movements. She is a good actress (albeit way overhyped), but it is hard to concentrate on her work when all I can think is, "What the hell is with that forehead?!"
" The yarn would snag and fray and pile and get filthy like nobody's business. I suggest sticking with scarves and (if you have more time) afghans, both of which can be very simple to make (especially by crochet) and rarely get directly rained or snowed on. ;-)"
That's not true at all if you felt them. I have a felted bag I made 5 years ago. I've only had to handwash it once. It's fab.
Overall, I was not very impressed by Ms. Kennedy's reasons for wanting this Senate seat nor do I think she made a very compelling argument for why she is the best out of the bunch to fill this seat.
The people who are questioning Ms. Kennedy's qualifications are not "picking on her" nor do most of them have any beef with her family. (FWIW, I am a life-long Democrat.)
Frankly, if her name was Caroline Smith there would still be questions and concerns given her rather shoddy resume and the fact that this is the first time she has shown interest in holding public office. Yes, she is an attorney who holds degrees from Harvard and Columbia, but so? Does that automatically make her the best qualified for out of all the others who are vying for the job? Given her famous name, I am going to go out on a limb and conclude that her applications to the said Ivy League Schools were not held to the same standard as most esp. given the that the school of government at the former bears the family name. I don't doubt that she is bright and well-educated but as I noted in an earlier letter, she truly did not come across as very compelling or even articulate in the NY Times Interview.
If she wants to hold office, then why not actually run for it? No matter what you feel about Hillary Clinton at least she did run for her seat and was elected by the people of NY. As a (nearly) life-long NY, at least Ms. Kennedy doesn't have to deal with the "carpetbagger" claims that Hillary Clinton did.
When I heard the name I wondered if it was a reference to "trip" as in "I tripped up!" or in honor of his paternal grandma's, er, hobby.
In any event, good luck to this kid. He's really going to need it. BTW, his self-proclaimed "f***ing redneck" father can get a much-needed delay on his up-coming marriage by citing that he wants to wait until after Momma's court date.
