Like 99.9% of the people I know, I could care less about Lohan's personal life or her movies. (Maybe I am in the minority here, but she never struck me as the next Jodie Foster andher movie roles have been unforgettable at best.)
The only reason I know about her personal woes is that they have been reported everywhere and by everywhere, I don't mean shows and websites like E! and Entertainment Tonight who specialize in celebrity gossip but so-called serious news outlets like CNN, CBS and Salon.com. Enough already!
Of course I meant 'responsiblity'. Sorry, the caffeine has not kicked in yet.
Besides the ginormous paychecks, free designer swag and VIP passes to exclusive clubs, one of the perks of being a celebrity appears to be being still called a 'kid' even when one is well-past the legal age of 18.
It does make me wonder if the people who are refer to Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lohan as 'kids' also apply the same label to those in jail many of whom are in their late teens and early 20s. I don't know the exact numbers but I would bet dollars to donuts that the average young offender probably grew up in a less-than-stable home while the adults around them hardly served as role models. However, most of them doing have people defending their actions nor do a lot of judges take those factors into consideration when sentencing them.
The fact is, Lohan (as well as Britney Spears and Paris Hilton) are adults. Apparently, they are adult enough to work, operate cars, enter into contracts, and in the case of Spears, even marry yet whenever they get in trouble they magically become kids again. Sorry, but it is time for these over-indulged brats to grow up and take responsiblity for their actions. As many pointed out, no one is forcing these women in the limelight.
but I do not blame MTV for Britney Spears' horrible performance at the VMAs. I do not blame Sarah Silverman, Spears's ex-husband, or her record label either. Instead, the person I blame is Britney Spears.
Despite her supporters' protest to the contrary, Ms. Spears has lead a very privileged life. She has money and resources that few people undergoing similar emotional issues can ever dream of.
Also, the last time I looked, MTV did not force her to perform at the VMAs. She chose to do it, and it was her responsiblity as a professional to make sure she knew her routine and deliver the best product she could. As someone who saw the performance live, I was struck more by her sloppiness and overall I-Don't-Care-Attitude much more than I was her 'messy' hair weave and 'out-of-shape' body. Frankly, she should be embarassed for herself and her fans.
Neither NY Times or anything else is capable of 'shaming' Jamie Lynn Spears or any other member of the Spears family for that matter. I don't think that she is 'bad', but merely a product of a very dysfunctional family where fame and money was valued above all else. Face it, if it wasn't for her big sister, there is no way in hell Jamie Lynn would be on tv. Her older sister's fame came not from any talent she happened to have but being marketed as underaged jailbait. Therefore, it is not surprising that Jamie Lynn is 16 and picking out baby clothes instead of a dress to the junior prom.
Also, how ashamed can she or her family be when they have reported earned an estimated $1 million for breaking the news to OK!? This baby has made her $1 million richer than she already was and has garnered her more publicity than she has ever had before. If anything, this is her million dollar baby in every sense of the word.
You certainly are shaming Jamie Lynn Spears. To suggest that Spears got pregnant to profit off of it is shameful.
I did no such thing. I merely pointed out that she and her mother have profitted financially from this pregnancy which is a fact.
BTW, how is Spears 'taking responsiblity'? I don't think that judgement can be made until the baby is born and we see how she parents.
Need I point out the obvious, Kim??? JLS was up front, and acknowledges that she is pregnant to the whole world. Isn't that the definition of taking responsibility for a pregnancy?
No, it is not or at least not in my book. By your logic then, anyone with an unplanned pregnancy who admits they are pregnant is 'taking responsiblity'. If that is the defination of responsiblity then maybe that defination needs to be changed or at least greatly enlarged.
She also has made it clear that she intends to use her resources to care for her child.
The only resources she seems to have is a much bigger bank account than the average 16 year old. I certainly don't know how she or any other 16 year old has the emotional capacity to take on parenting. Also, I daresay her immediate family isn't much of a resource. As I recall, having a lot of money certainly did not help her older sister who was at least married and of legal age when she became a mother.
Though I think a few people were irked that Tom Brady got not one, but two women accidentally pregnant, more or less in the same time frame. However I am sure Tom Brady will be a good father to both kids, and I hope he goes undefeated all the way to the Super Bowl this year.
Tom Brady has only 1 child and that is with his 37 year old ex-girlfriend. He did not get two women pregnant at the same time.
