August 6th Rocket Attack on Georgian Sovereign Territory
The U.S. condemns the August 6th rocket attack against Georgia. We praise Georgia's continuing restraint in the face of this air attack and call for the urgent clarification of the facts surrounding this incident and for all relevant parties to cooperate fully with the Georgian Government's and the OSCE's investigation.
The proximity of this attack to Georgia's separatist South Ossetia region and the violation of Georgia's airspace over the zone of conflict underscore the pressing need for progress toward peaceful resolution of the South Ossetia conflict. We encourage Russia and Georgia to advance efforts to this end in a constructive spirit, even in the face of this latest attack. We call for measures to prevent similar attacks against Georgia in the future, including implementation of the United Nations Joint Fact-Finding Group's recommendations on the March 11 attack in Georgia's Abkhazia region. We also repeat our call for speedy implementation of confidence building measures for the South Ossetia conflict, including increased OSCE monitoring of the region and international monitoring of the Roki Tunnel. We continue to support Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and Georgia's efforts to engage all relevant parties in defining an autonomous status for South Ossetia within Georgia's internationally recognized borders.

Three networks -- ABC, NBC, and MSNBC -- have called Pennsylvania for Barack Obama.
No call yet from Fox or MSNBC.
I think you mean CNN?
I'm sorry but as a Canadian I have one question to ask:
How pathetically incompetent for public office does one have to display in order to disqualify one for public office?!
It is *stunning* to me and my friends in Britain (where I live and work at the moment) that this woman is *conceivably* presidential material by anyone with a brain larger than a microbe.
Please, I thought America grew up with the election of Barack Obama...and we all pray that he was not a fiction...but this...this is beyond the pale!
Facts distort their reality...

Even if there was inappropriate contact with Blago they would deny it. Who's to say that there hasn't been inappropriate contact? These people have dirty hands. They are not the saints that they are being portrayed as in the media. The will do whatever it takes to get what they want, no exceptions, no prisoners.
Lemme get this straight....they can't be sure to archive all White House communications from web/phone/cell/etc...but we're to believe every single access by every other American (or not) is being archived into Eschelon? Hmmmm...
...or is this entire fiasco beginning to look manufactured??
Isn't saying this...
But the idea that... government will have no role, the federal government has no role in this, that in a moment when only the federal government is big enough to actually do stuff...
...roughly the same as saying Republicans don't really *believe* in conservatism but that raping the economy for private benefit must be reserved for the times when government has provided a secure environment for pillaging?
The Class War has been fought for 30 years against the common man in the street, which is why the Rich don't want anyone to call it what it is. Krugman is right on the money, evoking class warfare and it's about time we all fought back.
You're sounding more and more like Chomsky every day
The GOP have been running an anti-campaign from the very moment of Souter's announcement he plans to retire. That they are fomenting opposition within seconds of the announcement of an intended successor is therefore uninteresting.
What *is* interesting though is that politics in America appears to have taken on a sense of sport.
Republicans couldn't give a fig who Obama nominated, their only interest is in defeating his nominee. They also do not appear to have any interest whatsoever in advancing a legislative agenda...they only appear to want to disrupt and stall progress at all costs.
In football...or soccer if you prefer...this is called "catenaccio" after the usual style of the Italian team. Defend, obstruct and negate, stealing the occasional victory and eventually win the war through sheer force of will.
With Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi refusing to play by the same rules, or to combat them on similar terms, it's not remotely clear how Obama will be able to do anything progressive.
Sotomayor's nomination will be instructive.
Where is Peter Arnett when you need him?!
Obama seems far less than audacious anywhere but his "international" speeches. Domestically, he seems as audacious as a chicken sandwich.
Where's the leadership?
Sanctions & bombings are the logical equavalents of torture...it is harm inflicted on the expectation it will induce compliant behaviour.
Terrorism is similarly conceived.
It's no surprise that Liebermann et al. expect this to work...they believe in the efficacy of torture.

Polanski may be guilty, but who knows. He plea bargained. The whole concept of plea bargaining ("Say you're guilty and we'll end your persecution and give you less punishment") is deeply corrupt and makes any consideration of the real facts of the case a mockery of justice.
America has lost it's soul. Justice, like health care, is not a business.
The National Post is a Conrad Black vehicle. Enough said.
