Has anyone considered the possibility that Mystery Man might be bisexual? On a different note, it would seem to me that the real issue is the risk involved in dating a co-worker/superior. My advice to the LW is to allow yourself to have whatever feelings come up, not repress them and don't act on them either. Good luck!
Andrew Sullivan reminds me of the cuckolded lover, who is in denial that his relationship with the GOP is over, until the very end. Until he walks into the bedroom and finds his lover in bed with the religious right. He ignored the signs ... being left out of the purported Big Tent event, the time when he showed up with roses, expectantly and hoping to be told he was special and needed only to be ignored. He believed the lies about the WMD, he believed and trusted people like Cheney, even though his dear GOP was angry when Kerry said the obvious (that Mary Cheney is a lesbian). Surely Iraq's oil had nothing to do with the decision to go to war. People like Andrew Sullivan owe an apology to the families of those who died (and those who are injured) in this ill-begotten war.
And now Andrew is shocked, ney, appalled that this administration has turned out to be such dastardly rascals. Andrew, please wake up and smell the Earl Grey.
Gays and lesbians who actively work for discrimination against their fellow gays and lesbians (as Foley did) are collaborators. Those of us gays and lesbians in Virginia are watching as a draconian amendment is being put to voters in November. The repercussions of this amendment mean that all legal documents I have which would protect my partner in the event of my death are null and void. According to Virginia law, in the event of her death, her deadbeat brother from whom she has been estranged for decades, can swoop in and kick me out onto the street even though I co-own our house. This is what Foley and others of his ilk condone. Outing Foley is the least that should be done.
Several years ago, The Washington Times was very quick to jump on and further spread a rumor that Speaker of the House at the time (Tom Foley of Washington State) was gay. They had no evidence to support this, but that didn't stop them. Where are those self-righteous rumormongers now?
Since this country's already in the hole, why not spend more taxpayer dollars to dust off ol' Ken Starr and have him head the investigation? Since Sean Hannity is invoking Clinton's transgression, even though it's a completely different situation, why not go all out and issue a 525 report?
I too am proud of Salon for pursuing this avenue. If the Democrats aren't willing to highlight Allen being unfit for office, all the more need for the media to take this on. As a Northern Virginia resident, I am not hopeful though. Even if it was revealed that Allen had sacrificed small animals and children, there is enough stupidity in the rest of Virginia that he will most likely be re-elected. Our alternative? Mr. "The Naval Academy is a horny woman's dream", for whom I will still vote because I am that desperate. In preparation for the November elections, I am seeing more and more yellow bumper stickers advocating a "yes" vote on the hateful and shameful marriage amendment to our Constitution. Last night I watched Jon Stewart making fun of Virginians. While I wished he would distinguish between Northern Virginians and the rest of the state, he was very funny and yet, I am embarrassed to be seen as part of this Neanderthal voting bloc.
Bravo Cary! What a great perspective for such sad circumtances but one that offers hope for healing. I was one of the lucky ones to have been dumped before I made major life changes to relocate to be with The One. I was also lucky because even though I was dumped via email (as I was on the plane heading home after a visit) I was able to ask a few questions, which helped me make sense of the loss. My question was "your emails were so warm, loving and intimate and yet in person, you seemed to have a problem maintaining that. What happened?" And her response was "my emails were someone I wished I could be in person". I finally understood that I'd fallen in love with an e-mail persona and once that sunk in, my heart and head were in alignment. I could grieve and move on, which for me, meant no more online dating. Most of my pain comes when my head and heart aren't in agreement, but my ex's response helped me understand that I was in love with someone who didn't exist in person. Good luck to you LW - as my beloved grandmother (who's suffering from dementia ) would say - there is a silver lining at the end of the tunnel.
The LW calls 6 pints "a few drinks". Maybe that's the real issue. My guess is that LW is a Brit which probably means not the wimpy-sized American pints, but jolly good Brit pints which I believe are 20 ounces. OK, so the guy has an addictive personality, is impulsive and doesn't seem able to contemplate what consequences might come of his behaviour. Gee, he sounds like a dream. Please write to us in 6 months time and let us know how things are going for you and Mr. Braveheart.
Since you suspect who the person leaving the material might be, why not take the material, insert it into an interoffice envelope, type up a label with the person's name on it and send it back to him?
