"Long view?" pffft
[Read the article: Gates to Kennedy: Bush knows best]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Even if this president was capable of having a long view, it matters not because he has 20/200 vision.
How long is a "long view" anyway? Is it only til the next election cycle so that another can be blamed for "losing Iraq"?
Is it the 20 years it'll take before we rebuild our military again after their sharp edge has been blunted and reputation tarnished?
Is it 100 years?
Or does it extend the endless millennia that will exist after the "saved" are raptured up, which Bush Jr is secretly hoping to set into motion?

"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid expects "near" unanimous approval ..."
[Read the article: The senators vs. the president]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Near unanimous approval...?" "NEAR"? Which Democratic senator needs to be hit upside the head with a clue-by-four?
Granted, this is nowhere near at tough as I want, but that's the nature of compromise, that dirty sausage casing of American politics. Two years from now we'll control enough seats where we won't need to cut deals.

Hillary being "duped" is -not- the issue for me....
[Read the article: Hillary, Iraq and the nonadmission admission]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The issue for me is that Hillary (among many others) decided to cede her constitutional authority (congress being the only branch allowed to declare war, as outlined in the Constitution). This gave the President yet another bit of unauthorized power, bolstering the concept of the "Unitary Executive" branch that fascists like Gonzalez prattle on about.
Every single Senator that voted for that resolution failed the American people, not because they were gullible enough to believe a lie, but because they were lazy and/or cowardly enough to give away one of their sacred duties.

"Methinks the queen doth protest too much..."
[Read the article: The morality of Gen. Peter Pace]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So Pace is publicly saying homsexuality is immoral?
I think we've seen this movie before...
I'm willing to bet that if you went into his private bathroom, you'd find all sorts of muscle magazines... For the health articles, of course...
I can see him strutting around the gymnasium now, eying the strapping young lads... purely to be sure they're getting the proper exercise, of course.
And the sharing of a hotel room with members of his staff while on business trips? Why, he's saving the tax-payers money, of course.
I foresee a tell-all book by a former "aide" coming out (no pun intended) in the near future...

What he really meant was...
[Read the article: You know what they say about assumptions]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]He doesn't know if "Karl" wanted this, but "Turdblossom", on the other hand, was all for it.
"Oh.... Rove! I didn't realise who you were talking about...."

Dowd proves one thing at least...
[Read the article: It makes all of us a little crazy, actually]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Once again, we are shown that Republicans are so filled with self interest that the only time they stray from the party line is when they have a personal stake in the issue.
Nancy Reagan and stem cell research is another example of this. If a family member of a Republican politician got aids, money spent on a cure would probably triple.
Of course, if this postulate is true, it also shows that Dick Cheney to be one completely evil SOB, who will not do anything to ensure equal rights for gays and lesbians, despite having a lesbian daughter.

Another reason the Brits might be hesitant about force... 25th anniversary.
[Read the article: If only Newt Gingrich were president]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]25 years ago this week Britain and Argentina went t owar over hte Falkland (or Malvinas) Islands.
What was supposed to be a cakewalk (first world vs third world) ended up costing the UK the HMS Sheffield. They still won, of course, but it was the tea party in the park that some had been promising.
Iran would be a far more capable foe than Argentina was, and I bet the butcher bill would be higher. Anti ship technology has only improved in the past 25 years, and ship defense has not kept pace.

I have the perfect candidate...
[Read the article: Cheney in charge]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Time to go to "Old Faithful", the loyal dog who keeps crawling to lick the hand that beats him... who will gladly and stoically endure any humiliation... that old soldier that will -always- follow orders (even if those orders cause him to betray every oath he ever swore to God and his fellow man...
Colin Powell.

My bet?
[Read the article: None of your business]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My money is on Jeff Gannon figuring prominently, probably in a full dress Marine uniform and carrying a sack of new born babies for Cheney to feast on.

Allure of "group fucking"
[Read the article: District attorney won't take gang rape case]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"What is it about men and group fucking? Rape or not."
Well, Anony, one reason is that when you are doing something with a group, it is easier to discard your own personal values and "go along with the crowd". I'm not saying this excuses anyone, just pointing out a quirk of the way our minds work.

How do such ignorant people get to power?
[Read the article: The Libby lobby's pardon campaign]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"With classified information, it was frequently hard to know who was cleared to see what or what could be discussed with whom. If there is anyone who fully understands our 'system' for protecting classified information, I have yet to meet him." - Bolton
I was taught the only rule you need about classified information on my first day of submarine school: If you have any doubts about whether or not the information is classified, or the level of allowed access the person you are talking to is allowed, you don't talk about it. There, easy enough to understand, no?
Of course, Bolton probably knows this anyway... he was just being a typical lying Republican.
-
Bah... the majority of the people don't give a damn.
[Read the article: Conyers to Cheney: Butt out]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The only way most of the American public would start to care about anything Cheney does is if he were shown to be tampering with the "American Idol" votes...
Come on... if the story of him drunk and shooting a man in the face (on a picnic with a woman who was not his wife), then refusing to be interviewed by the police or take a breathalyzer test didn't get any traction, nothing will.

Adultery is not outlawed specifically, but...
[Read the article: The chairman's greatest hits]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The "Manual of Court Martial" expands on Article 134 (known in the military as the "if we forgot to forbid it, we'll prosecute you anyway..." article) to include adultery.
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/justicelawlegislation/a/adultery.htm
That being said, it is rarely enforced.
