  • Mid life

[Read the article: I'm an interesting, talented artist but I can't take the rejection!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I wonder if LW is midlife crisis age, because this sounds like the classic midlife question, "Is this all I am? Is there nothing more? What about the youthful dreams and passions that I abandoned?" Yes, it's a little bit of a cliche, but we all face these questions at some point. Having money doesn't make it easier if we feel that our contribution so far has been trifling in the macrocosmic sense.

LW having faced this issue myself I suggest that you practice your art for passion's sake, and let the path come naturally. Don't force it, let it flow. Just quietly get started and see what happens.

It's funny you should mention the lawnmower. While I cannot fix mine, I actually greatly enjoy mowing our lawn and hub sure doesn't mind handing that job over. We are fine with the arrangement, but much of the rest of the world has a problem with it. I cannot count the number of times hubby has been accused of being lazy, or I have been asked why I "let him make me" mow the lawn. Once a town worker happened to stop in front of the house and asked how he could get his wife to mow too.

People love their gender roles and get really upset when others move outside of them.

  • The End of Career Commercials

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Celebrities should be careful what cheesy TV commercials they do late in life. Poor Phil - being uninterested in sports, I only really know of him from Seinfeld and those horrible "Money Store" commercials he did.

"Hi! I'm Phil Rizzuto from the Money Store!"

    What a shame.

I noticed from Day One that Rumsfeld and Co. were calling our activities in Iraq an occupation. I was surprised because the Republicans clearly understand the power of language - it seemed like a rookie mistake for these seasoned BSers. I guess they're trying to close the barn door on the word now but it's too late ...

  • Teachers do just fine

    [Read the article: Opus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't know where these mythical teachers are who have to work sacking groceries during the summer to make ends meet. Where I live in New York teachers have lengthy paid vacations, excellent benefits including top-shelf family heath care, dental, vision, life, disability, credit unions, tenure, strong unions, and more. On top of that they get into six figures after ten years or so of experience. Plus they get to whine non-stop. Not a bad deal.

  • Catholic Here

[Read the article: My Christian daughter says I'm going to hell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Yep, the Big One - I go to an old fashioned Roman Catholic Church. I go on Saturday afternoons to say my rosary at the altar, make my Confession, and attend a service. The Priest is a lovely man who has prayed to God for me. I am grateful to be a part of the Church.

Last week the sermon was about the rich man who went to Hell because he had no compassion for the leper outside his door. Even the dogs had more compassion for the leper, licking his wounds and trying to give him comfort. The lesson was to be kind and compassionate and never let your heart grow cold to the needs of others. Does that sound so horrible to you?

Go to church with the kid - she'll love you for it and it's no where near as crazy as some of these posters make it sound.

  • "Not Yets"

[Read the article: I'm cheating on my husband and loving it. Is that a problem?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Often people who know they have a drinking problem go to AA and then stop. They do so using excuses ... "I haven't lost my job" or "I haven't lost my family". Yeah, not yet.

You too hazily recognize that you have a problem, that there is a rattlesnake in your midst, but it hasn't bitten you. Not yet.

Get a grip before the bad thing you know is going to happen happens.

  • Very Wrong Behavior

[Read the article: If Britney Spears shouldn't be naked in front of her kids, what about me?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The selfishness of some parents is astonishing. Like it would kill you to wear a robe and conform to the society you live in, which is one that wears clothes most of the time, particularly in front of an opposite sex child. Sheesh!

  • Train and Subway

[Read the article: Should Bush open up the oil spigot?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This easterner drives 1.3 miles to the train station to get to NYC, and then uses a subway to get to work. I do that not because I'm so worried about the planet, or because I happened to be born on this coast and therefore rock, but because it's impossible for your average commuter to drive to and in NYC. Also, public transportation is available, affordable to me, and is mostly reliable. I spend about $250/month on unlimited use tickets for public transportation. That's less than my car payment.

We shoulda built trains and subways all over the country when we had the chance. I don't know what we're going to do now - obviously the dreaded days of The End of Oil have come. God help us.

  • human power, you're pushy and rude

[Read the article: Should Bush open up the oil spigot?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Yes, I drive 1.3 miles to the station for lots of reasons. Driving takes 5 minutes and walking or biking takes far longer. My commute already takes almost and hour and a half, or three hours per day, and now I'm supposed to add more time on it? Plus much of the year it's dark when I leave and dark when I come home. Plus it's often cold here - like half the year. Last, I have to dress up for work, I don't want to stink of sweat when I get there or have my clothes rumpled.

If there was a shuttle bus, now that I would seriously consider.

Finally, your brand of rude condescension doesn't help motivate people. It's just obnoxious and full of assumptions.

  • Adult Babies

[Read the article: How to explain my husband to my kids?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I was married to a depressed man. In my experience, depressed behavior is nothing like your husband's behavior. He sounds like an adult baby to me. Sadly, there are lots of them in the world.

Please reconsider teaching the children how to tolerate an adult baby.

  • Question

[Read the article: Back-seat buying and driving]

How is it okay for the wealthy women to be driven around by male employees who are not related to them? Isn't that a no-no?
