Does anyone really care anymore? Oh my, Bush asked his press secretary to lie--to the American people no less...about releasing a CIA operatives name?!? This might be worth the effort if this was even in the top five worst things he has yet to do, but it is not.
Where are the hearings about Iraq, NSA wiretapping, Guantanamo, contractors, Rendition, Habeus Corpus, Abu Ghraib, a 9+ trillion dollar debt, Patriot Act and the list goes on and on. Time for Congress to ask tough questions? That time has come and gone again and again. The democrats refuse to do anything as they play for the center and always abandon the left because, "Really, where are they going to go?" I don't know what the left in this country needs to do, but something has got to change.
I'm glad Kerry learned his lesson but it appears Obama learned nothing from that election. In 2004 the placid democratic convention was followed by the republican convention where they absolutely torched Kerry (Bush went on to a 12-14 pt bounce from which Kerry never recovered). The only conclusion that I can draw from this convention is that either the democrats are courteous to a fault or there are really few policy differences with which they differ with the current administration. What they should have done is sealed Bush's legacy as the absolute worst president in history, destroy the Republican brand and everything which it stands for from which a candidate as pathetic as McCain could never recover. I just saw they edited Kucinich's rather tame remark--what the hell is wrong with these people.
And kjayne, if Obama does manage to get elected Democrats are going to have to be vigilant to keep him in line. These newly co-opted powers by the Bush admin will not be readily ceded. The fact that dems are willing to criticize their own is one of the few reasons I keep showing up at the polls, and, at least lately, is their only redeemable quality.
Her bio and resume reads like something off the onion.
It's about time someone in Hollywood makes a film about WWII.
How anyone watches this garbage is beyond me; I've watched much bad TV in my day but this absolutely takes the cake as the worst piece of shit I have ever seen. The reviewer claims that to make a comedy about southern "hicks" is not as easy as you would think...perhaps that is because there is nothing funny about poverty in the South. Well, of course the reviewers sample of the show concerning some guy who "carries his comatose brother home from the hospital in a shopping cart and dumps puréed chicken and fries into his I.V." is hilarious. Really?
Hate to rehash but just for fun what do you think Obama's lead would be right now if he had picked Hillary, cp. I honestly think he would be flirting with 60%. I'm no puma (supported Obama in primary) but it's still sad to think about.
Jesus christ, this column gets worse and worse. Everytime someone writes in about some abnormal behavioral problems the diagnoses come out. You guys are worse than Sen. Frist. You all read one letter from a disgruntled sister and he must obviously have some serious medical condition. Aspergers? Maybe the guy's just an asshole.
LW, learn to live with it or move on--doesn't sound like much of a loss if you choose the latter
This economic crisis is a godsend to the Obama administration to extricate America from Afghanistan and Iraq. A strong united front by the democrats with a full court press on the media (of the sort that got us into this mess) could have everybody believing that we can no longer afford to sustain these wars. The majority of the country is ready to jump on that bandwagon, all we need is Obama at the head. Let the Repubs try to convince their Muslim-hating supporters that we should continue dumping billions in the desert. Bonus: the longer the war and economic downturn continues, we can blame the latter on the continuation of the former.
Boring parents are just boring people who finally have something to say they think others might be interested in hearing. Thanks for setting them straight.
This article reminded me of a photo I received from a close relative with their new baby who had just defecated on them as they posed laughing. Everyone with kids in the room thought it was hilarious. There are indeed some things in life I'm content not understanding, especially if children are requisite.
The title of that Edmundson article from the previous poster nailed it. After a reading a third of it..."Enough Already." Hey Dr. Edmundson, if you find everyone around a bore, you're likely the problem. There are very few articles I've ever started and not at least skimmed to the end; congrats, you made the list.
"The moral case against the damage done to the Vietnamese population and landscape by U.S. firepower and Agent Orange defoliation is compelling. But the U.S. effort in Korea was even more devastating, and the U.S. efforts in World War II included the incineration of German and Japanese cities by conventional and atomic bombing. To the historian, the case that the Vietnam War was a unique atrocity in itself is hard to make" [emphasis added].
Vietnam was, indeed, not "unique," and our collective refusal to acknowledge that fact allows for the continuation of our bizarre imperialism. Far from rebutting the leftist position, Lind shows, in this devastating paragraph, that the left never went far enough in their criticism.
