But what if he goes to Argentina?

Oh yeah, a guy can't read his wife's e-mail when she goes to Europe but take a little trip to Argentina and the whole world is going through his yahoo account. I love you baby but you aren't Argentina... Do not try this at home!

It's a trap only if you think like Cheney

If the Democrats are worth their salt then this is not a trap at all. If the Democrats are willing, ready and able to investigate Pelosi (a serving Speaker of the House) then there is nothing to prevent an investigation into an ex President or Vice President. If we truly believe that torture is a crime and that no ends justify it, then we should let the chips fall where they may. If we are honest in pursuing justice no trap will work no matter how cunning.

Not Getting the Joke

A recent study concluded that conservatives who watch the Colbert Report don't recognize that it's a satirical program. Perhaps I'm a liberal suffering the same effect while reading Keillor's piece. I certainly hope so because if I'm an idiot then there's not much lost but if Keillor isn't joking the loss is very great indeed. A bit worrying either way...

Did we repeal Sarbanes- Oxley?

I thought that the phony numbers racket was supposed to have been cleaned up by the Sarbanes-Oxley act. Shouldn't some CEO's and CFO's be wearing handcuffs about now? Rigged markets, bogus financial products and complete, shameless impunity. Yes, the investors seem to have figured out the obvious in that our elite, ivy league trained "talent" can't be trusted with a warm bucket of spit.

We Got Fooled Again

Anybody having trouble reproducing Roger Daltrey's scream on "Won't Get Fooled Again" should read this pathetic sell out of a speech. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

There's a Bigger Issue Out There

For every coffin that reaches Dover there are ten or more wounded coming home. Some jerks in the White House are kicking around the idea of forcing veterans to use their private insurance to take care of treatment of injuries received in combat. Salon needs to cover this issue and Obama supporters need to put a stop to it. Immediately. Call or e-mail the White House now!

We've Reached an Historical Milestone

In the year 2009, a German general disobeyed an order from an American general because the order was inhumane and against the laws of war. Amazing.

Paul can do better...

So the fair Marisa listens to the voices in her head (medication can help with that) and decides not to inflict herself upon an exotic third world country. Malaysia dodged a bullet but poor Paul is still stuck with a histrionic, self entitled, money grubbing wife. Let us all hope that Paul meets a nice girl at work. He's obviously had a hell of a time lately and could use a bit of luck.

Strange language in the New York Times

An article in Saturday's New York Times had some strange language.

"... Jawaher, a 14-year old who has United States citizenship..."

I guess that if you're an American living in Gaza you lose your right to be called an American. At least according to the New York Times. It's pretty damn strange language that reveals a pretty damn sick state of mind.

Not only are Palestinians being dehumanized in our press but so are Palestinian Americans. This is really crossing the line.

She was doing the right thing.

For whatever reason or purpose (almost certainly flawed) Cynthia McKinney did the right thing, at the right place, at the right time. I just went to http://www.freegaza.org/ and made a donation. After reading Koppelman's snide post it seemed the only decent thing to do. What's truly sad about this particular situation isn't that McKinney was on the boat but that I wasn't. The blood of Gaza is on the hands of every American and I for one am heartily sick of it.

Bogus Issue, Bigoted Response

This whole North/South issue is completely bogus. Both Northern and Southern members of congress helped impede higher gas mileage standards for decades. At the same time the Big 3 were (and are) making some of the most fuel efficient and popular cars in Europe, Asia and North America.

Then congress with supporters in both parties and all regions of the USA gives a massive tax break to anyone buying an SUV. So sales boom until the energy crunch comes along. Our national response as a nation to 9/11 was to buy millions of SUV's.

The real issue is whether congress can get over it's hypocritical posturing and admit that they share a large responsibility for Detroit's problems. It's disgusting that not one member of congress or the administration admitted that they too are to blame for Detroit's precarious position.

Like it or not, the entire nation contributed to this sorry state of affairs. To scapegoat a few senators for one vote is understandable but not entirely honest. To scapegoat an entire region of the country is ignorant bigotry. I expected better from a Salon writer.

Where Reconstruction is Really Needed

Actually the reconstruction should begin with Harry Reid's testicles. He should have made the opponents of the Detroit bailout actually filibuster. He, and the rest of the Democrats could have fought and still be fighting now. That would have been the right thing to do if he really gave a damn about Detroit. But instead he gave up without a fight and left the whole decision up to our wonderfully responsible president.

So now we're looking at "orderly bankruptcy". If our Senate leadership can't stand up to a few Southern blowhards (or even Leiberman!) then our nation is well and truly screwed. It's ridiculous to blame the Southern senators for the timidity of their opponents. Fight them and you will win. Don't fight them and we will lose. Just grow a pair and do it.
