War is Peace the hunt for Emmanuel Goldstein
[Read the article: John McCain's serious foreign policy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Report: CIA Shutters Unit Leading Hunt for bin Laden
Tuesday, July 04, 2006
NEW YORK — The CIA says efforts to hunt down Usama bin Laden are as strong as ever, despite a report that the agency has shut down a unit that hunted for the Al Qaeda leader and his top lieutenants...
The recent book "Ghost Wars" says some in the CIA were uncomfortable with the unit, saying its zeal for capturing bin Laden took on a cult-like atmosphere.

"The social atmosphere is that of a besieged city.. And at the same time the consciousness of being at war, and therefore in danger, makes the handing-over of all power to a small caste seem the natural, unavoidable condition of survival."
"It does not matter whether the war is actually happening, and, since no decisive victory is possible, it does not matter whether the war is going badly. All that is needed is that a state of war should exist."
"In his capacity as an administrator, it is often necessary for a member of the Inner Party to know that this or that item of war news is untruthful, and he may be aware that the entire war is spurious and is either not happening or is being waged for purposes quite other than the declared ones: but such knowledge is easily neutralized by the technique of doublethink. Meanwhile no Inner Party member wavers for an instant in his mystical belief that the war is real, and that it is bound to end victoriously, with Oceania the undisputed master of the entire world."

"I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace." - George W. Bush, June 18, 2002

[Read the article: So long, Canada]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Mossad has been caught using Canadian passports.
"...a Mossad assassination squad using altered passports of Canadian Jewish residents of Israel botched an attempt to murder Khaled Meshal, the political chief of the Hamas Islamic movement, in Amman."

Canada, Annexation of
[Read the article: So long, Canada]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Canada has the second largest proven oil reserves in the world and a significant percentage of its fresh water supply.
The United States is running out of both oil and water. If the attack on Iran comes, and the Middle East is burning; can the annexation of Canada be far behind?
A strongly policed border can only be an asset in the coming anschluss.

Bush was "elected" by "activist" judges
[Read the article: McCain embraces Bush's radical views of executive power]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The stench of hypocrisy is thick on these swine. Where was McCain when the Supreme court essentially appointed Bush? Was that not the ultimate act of judicial activism?
McCain's complaint about how judges feel free to do what they want because they have life long appointments is perfect proof that he has no idea how important the principle of judicial independence is to democracy. The judicial system has some large flaws as the appointment of Buhs shows, but the alternative is dictatorship.
I am also gratified to see so many posters actually worried that the United States is descending into fascism. Just a few years ago prescient people who made that assertion were ridiculed. Today, it is a relatively uncontroversial position, and thank god for that, as we have to recognize the problem before we can solve it.
Having said that, the most pressing problem for America at the moment is the upcoming attack on Iran. This idea too was controversial a year ago, but recently the entirely mainstream and serious London Times is reporting on the plan to attack a number of targets inside Iran.
When this attack comes, there will be horrendous blowback. This blowback will be used to justify martial law and/or the suspension of the November elections, especially if it looks like Obama is going to win.

@ antiup, Glenn
[Read the article: McCain embraces Bush's radical views of executive power]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That's what I like about you Glenn, you slaughter them with the facts! What has Obama done indeed!
A better question though, is what will he do? I have no idea as to the details, but as cynical and disillusioned as I am, I believe he has good intent. This is not true for the other two...

Nice ad hominums Herb
[Read the article: McCain embraces Bush's radical views of executive power]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I read some of your letters. You are not a "liberal" as I understand the word. Your fact free attack on Glenn was itself ad hominum.
You said you never heard of Glenn before today? And you claim that you are a liberal? That's like saying you are physicist and have never heard of Steven Hawking.
Maybe you should have smoked some of that dope at the Cream concert instead of complaining how it hurt your throat! It might have lightened you up a bit. Bad dope smokers! Bad! Lock em up! Right?
As for your threat to spread the word on Glenn - go ahead. I plan on spitting in the general direction of the White House today. That'll show em!
