  • @ Martin Gifford -- Us vs Them and Everybody Loses...

You asked, "What’s controversial about thinking big, thinking positive and creating a long term plan? Your responses are very strange. But this is a political blog, so “us vs them” thinking is to be expected."

From my POV nothing. But as an outsider looking in, this is the poison that has spread throughout the political system in America, and to a lesser but growing extent in my country, Canada, and that poison is partisanship.

The left and the right now face each other as sworn enemies each absolutely positive they are right and the other wrong. The republicans talk about 'Liberals' exactly the same way they used to talk about 'Commies'. And they wanted to kill them.

So it is no surprise that our discussions here get filtered through the lens of the American political system.

It is unfortunate; there used to be a middle ground.

  • McCain was not wrong!

Iran is the enemy. Iran must be destroyed.

If they don't really support Al Qaida or provide the insurgents with super high-tech, Made in Iran EFP's, what matter?

For whatever reason, Iran has been targeted by the neocons, Israel, whomever. It's pretty clear to me that elements in America wish to attack Iran. It's obvious to me that McCain wishes to do so. That image of Lieberman whispering in his ear was really chilling.

"Remember the deal John, if you want us to help you gain the Presidency, you have to stick to the script!"

The only question is whether or not to use nuclear weapons. That will scare the 'bloody wogs'.

  • Lies, Lies, Lies, and more Lies - About Iran

We keep hearing how Iran is supplying the insurgents in Iraq with EFP's, which we are supposed to believe is a "new" and difficult to make weapon. So difficult in fact that the stupid inexperienced, never fought anyone before Iraqi's, are supposed to be incapable of making on their own. As the noted expert on military affairs Gwynne Dyer, has said, there is nothing new about EFP's, they have been in the inventories of Western armies for over 30 years now and can be made in any machine shop.

Here is a video of some guy on the Discovery Channel whipping up an RFP with a bit of plastique, some pipe and a copper cone.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LudNqf56AFo&NR=1

The question is, did the Discovery Channel have help from Iran, and when does the bombing start? Or are we just supposed to believe that the Discovery Channel has more military expertise than the Iraqis?

Iraq fought an 8 year long war with Iran and used to have the highest percentage of PHD's in the world. But they could not make an EFP, no way.

The only remaining question is, would Hilary attack Iran? The answer is, yes! But only if Chteney has not done it first.

    Real men go to Tehran!

  • McCain has LOTS of experience

If you ever need civilians bombed from the air - call John! He has experience!

Who has Hilary bombed? (Bill does not count)

Obama did threaten to bomb Pakistan, but he has never bombed anyone before. What a loser.

How war hero John McCain betrayed the Vietnamese peasant who saved his life

    23rd March 2008

In all the tales of wartime courage peppering John McCain's presidential campaign trail, perhaps the most outstanding example of selfless heroism involves not the candidate but a humble Vietnamese peasant.

On October 26, 1967, Mai Van On ran from the safety of a bomb shelter at the height of an air raid and swam out into the lake where Lieutenant Commander McCain was drowning, tangled in his parachute cord after ejecting when his Skyhawk bomber was hit by a missile.

In another article Mr. On, who was a communist party official, said that McCain was not tortured because he was too valuable to them as the son of an Admiral. This account makes sense to me.

  • @ Scientician - "Stoopid Iraqis"

Thanks for the post about Petraeus blaming Iran (again!) for training Iraqi's who to use mortars and rockets.

It is a well known fact that throughout the 8 year long Iraqi war, the Iraqis never used mortars or rockets. In fact prior to the 'liberation' of Iraq, there were no rockets or mortars there, just WMD, huge stacks of them, reaching into the stratosphere.

What I want to know is, who believes this stuff? I have never fired a mortar, but it doesn't look particularly difficult. Does anyone really believe that the Iraqis need Iranian help to fire a goddamn mortar? The EFP's (explosively formed projectiles) are little more difficult, but as I said in an earlier post, these things are not exactly cruise missiles.

Maybe McCain meant to croon, "blame, blame, blame, blame Iran..." That's the first verse anyway, we know the second.

  • Jkalos, on heros

    Thanks!

The Vietnamese defense of their country against first the French and then the Americans was, in fact, truly heroic. Mr. On was a real mensch. And he was a hero.

To save another's life at the risk of your own is the apogee of heroics.

Flying a plane several miles up in the sky, dropping bombs on people you can't even see? Maybe not so much.

Turkish, Iranian forces attack PKK bases in Iraq

Turkish and Iranian artillery shelled areas in northern Iraq used by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and its Iranian offshoot, Iraqi Kurdish reports said yesterday...

Someone should ask McBomb how he will sort this one out. If it's okay for the Turks to bomb Iraq, and it is, then it must be okay for the Iranians too. Right John?

It's 3 AM John, the phone is ringing. Who will you bomb? Who will you bomb? The Iturkians? The Tranians? The North Kurdians? More Iraqis? Too bad all them damn gook names sound the same. Hurry John! The fate of the weird depends on it!
