  • Iran has no need for nuclear energy because it has oil?

[Read the article: The fallout for Bush on Iran]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Give me a break. I am sick of this canard. Canada has the second largest proven oil reserves in the world. Yes, that's right Canada. Yet Canada has 18 nuclear reactors. Is this because they want to "wipe Israel from the map?" No. Some countries realise that oil, no matter how much it has, will not last forever. So they quite wisely plan for the future.

Another good reason for Iran to have nuclear energy is that this allows them sell oil they would otherwise use themselves. This makes good economic sense.

Nonetheless, America will still attack Iran as all this talk about bombs is just a red herring. The real goal is the same as it ever was, total domination of the world's oil and the protection of Israel from it's many self-created enemies.

Even if Iran has a bomb, this is meaningless, or almost so. Pakistan has many - sitting on missiles. Why is no one talking about bombing them? Especially as they are only 1 bullet away from an Islamic democracy? What exactly would Iran do with a bomb besides commit national suicide? The destruction of Iran is a certainty if Israel were to be attacked with nukes, no matter their origin. Iran knows that.

The long game is to deny China the oil. If Bush does not attack and dominate the Middle East then his successor will. The American project for global hegemony must continue.

PS No one ever said they wanted to wipe Israel from the map. That is a lie.

PPS The NIE is just a bump in the road for the bush/cheney junta. They are routing around the damage even as write this.

Sorry I misquoted you, "All I want for Christmas is holacaust". (sic)

That little red line under a word means you misspelled that word. Too bad they don't have a way of drawing a line under bigoted statements.

I have no trouble believing this at all, in fact it explains a great deal.

Many people will balk at your idea of course. I mean it is kind of hard to believe that the same people who lied us into war and killed over a million Iraqi's inter alia, would stoop to blackmail!

  • I knew John Kennedy

Nobody believes that Cheney keeps the controls in his office, he is not that stupid. It's in the secret undisclosed location, next to coffin filled with the soil of his native Transylvania.

I don't know where you get your numbers about Salonistas, but for yanks in general it's more like 30% who don't believe the official conspiracy theory...

  • Most terrifying Greenwald article yet

[Read the article: Mitt Romney's pursuit of tyrannical power, literally]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Romney, is terrifying, Guiliani is pretty much off the "holy jesus, I don't want this guy to be President" scale, McCain is probably mad, and certainly delusional, I could go on but people know the line-up.

I have some questions for you Glenn. You talk almost incessantly about the loss of freedoms of in America. And you are correct sir! America has lost several constitutional freedoms already, with more losses on the way (FISA). I would like you to tell us where you think this is going? Will the election be fixed, again as many would say? Will there even be an election or will Cheneybush cook up, or capitalise on, some putative "national emergency" using their shiny new dictatorial powers under the many edicts, laws, and executive orders that they have so carefully put in place?

And finally, and this is the most important question, do you believe that this "unitary executive" will hand over the crown to Hilary or Obama, when they will have the unfettered power to declare them "enemy combatants" and incarcerate and torture them at will?

I know my answer, I would like to know yours, and of course the many others who post here too.

  • So how are you reading this?

    [Read the article: Opus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

On a computer. On a screen. Must be horrible for those of you who still have a preference for smelly dirty paper.

Paper is not the best way to deliver information, not anymore. Paper is a terrible burden on the environment. We destroy millions of acres of forest a year to print trashy novels, and newspapers which are trash 12 hours after coming off the presses. Paper must be manufactured, shipped and stored, then it must be printed, bound, shipped and stored. All so we can maintain a bad habit.

I had this same argument 10 years ago about digital cameras. One pro that I knew swore he would never give up film. He did, and so did everyone else. It was inevitable in the face of a clearly superiour technology.

So you like paper better, get over it, none of the arguments I have read here come down to more than, I am used to paper and don't want to change. Oh, and by the way, screw the environment.
