Why is Obama being referred to as "black?"
[Read the article: The crazy uncles in Obama's attic]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]With Obama mama white as a llama, isn't he at least as white as he is black?
He considers himself to be black, you say. Hm, really? Is race now a matter of declaration? Could I declare myself to be black if I wanted to?
No, I couldn't but he can. Why?
Here is why: Because Obama is black according to the "one drop" laws of the seemingly forgotten days of Jim Crow. When Obama declares himself to be black, he is a latter-day miscegenationist, he just does not know it.
Maybe Uncle Jeremiah is right after all. Affirmative action, equal opportunity laws, hate crime legislation, the uber-cool of faux ghetto, they have have created a squeaky clean mixture of phoney political correctness and equally superficial pop culture. Bona fide racists such as the members of the Klan or the Aryan Nations have long been ridiculed and marginalized. But is has not made racism disappear, it is alive and well.
Deep in our souls, Uncle Jerry. Yes, even in yours - after all you also saw, and accepted, Obama as "black". With 50% Negro blood in his veins, For decades apparently, you have railed against the government, the KKK but your ire has been misdirected. You should have looked into the goddamn mirror!
This is all nice and dandy but as I researched this on Wiki I realized that some Harvard sociology prof had already written an article about the same issue in Time Mag.
Ah well, so much for trying to be original.

So Glenn listens to Rush Limbaugh
[Read the article: One of Instapundit's favorite blogs speaks on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]O heavens, no, he doesn't, he just echoes the opinions of others who also do not listen to RL and who also echo the opinions of others who do not listen to RL.
I do listen to RL ...
--- here I allow time for recovering from fainting spells ---
hm hm hm
la la la
see, it did not hurt!
... and, whatever my opinion is worth, even tho probably only the censor reads these postings, that RL is not a racist.
But, hey, who am I to disturb yous's inner peaces, nothing to learn here, move along, move along...

In defense of chickens
[Read the article: An Olympic disgrace]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]First, I disagree with those who think (anthropomorphically) that certain higher order vertebrates can think and have emotions and others don't. Chickens, for instance, can run around scared when they are being chased, or not? Pigeons can all kinds of fancy cognitive stuff. Rats are smart. Etc.
Theoretically there is no difference between a human eating meat from a cow, or meat from a dog. Or a dog eating meat from a human. Animals have been eating animals for, oh, about a quarter billion years, that's the way it goes in our corner of the Universe.
Some people possess irrational attachment to their dogs and it clouds their judgment. It's not that they don't want to eat them, or others to eat them, (I would not want to eat my cichlids and gouramis either), but they imagine that the life of a dog, because it can think, has a higher value than that of a cow which, they presume erroneously, can't think. Newsflash: there is much more in common between the thinking of a dog and a cow than between the thinking of a human and any other animal. Aside from that, what kind of a value system is that? Thinkingism?
Although it is not part of Nature (ever seen any NatGeo shows? ever seen what unspeakable horrors do animals commit against one another? ) we humans try to get our meal in a human-like, i.e. "humane" way. Paradoxically, the loudest proponents of "humane" treatment of animals are the same people who would not let you pick up a pebble at a national park because it is "changing nature". Well, what do you know, one human inconsistency resolved, 10 million more to go.
And I agree. We should keep our animals well and kill them fast. I don't know why, it just feels right.
Back to chickens. Has the dear reader ever heard of Kaparot (also spelled Kapparot), some weird Hassidic ritual practiced right here in Olympic-aspiring NYC? If you have a strong stomach you can go to YouTube and search with these terms. PETA is on them, I wonder how they fared.

Hitler's Germany had an Olympics
[Read the article: King Kaufman Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The IOC is responsible for putting up the Olympic games, as it contractually promised the games for the hosts and for the participants. Actually the IOC is responsible to have awarded the games to China in the first place and it would have no credibility in claiming it did not know China was being run by a brutal and repressive totalitarian regime. So the games should go on.
The participants and spectators, on the other hand, are free to chose. It is not an easy choice, still easier than being a Tibetan.
Would not it be great if the game halls were empty in the glittering cities that had been wiped clean of stray dogs and undesirable humans because scores of individuals, both sportspersons and spectators, would have stayed home as a result of conscientious decisions to object, and not because it was easy to hide behind the shadow of a large organization that would make the decision for them?
Yes, it would. Something's telling me though, this is to the kind of world we live in.
