  • The snark because...

[Read the article: In your face, Larry Summers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Well, I'm not sure I agree that attractive intelligent people are necessarily better company than plain old intelligent people... but I wasn't saying it was a bad thing that Danica McKellar is gorgeous as well as brainy. I was saying it struck me as weird that half the space on the conference schedule was devoted to pictures of McKellar's gorgeousness. Whether or not it's okay to judge people based on how attractive they are, it does seem silly to judge a math conference on how attractive its panelists are. And if the hot panelist were a guy, I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same way.

  • Madonna, ripped equestrienne

[Read the article: Madonna: Crazy for sinew]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Gluttons for punishment should check out Madonna's 60 page equine/dominatrix spread in W magazine. "Unafraid, leather-clad and in the best shape of her life," "the 47-year-old, an avid horsewoman, took to a Hollywood sound stage with six stallions and photographer Steven Klein." She has the impressively rippling back muscles of a teenage wrestler.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Hey jlburke, thanks for the heads-up. At the time this post went up, the link was not available on the Education Next Web site. I'll update the post to reflect the fact that the article is now available online.

  • Re: A small quibble

[Read the article: Closing the doors on single-sex education?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Thanks, wm, you're right! I was linking to the wrong Randolph-Macon. I've updated the post to link to the correct institution.

And, in answer to your wondering, I believe Randolph-Macon Woman's College will be the one to change its name. More here: http://www.rmwc.edu/strategicplan/faq.asp

  • Re: Did Salon Forget to Print Part of This Article?

[Read the article: The truth about the E. coli outbreak]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The original display copy for "The truth about the E. coli outbreak" mistakenly cited deer overpopulation as a possible source of crop contamination. Soon after the story was published, the mistake was caught and corrected, along with several other errors in the story itself. Salon regrets the errors and will publish a formal correction shortly.

  • Re: proofreading and editing

[Read the article: What else we're reading]

Thanks for noting the error -- we'll correct the post.

  • Re: Misrepresenting Target

[Read the article: The kindness of strangers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Purgo is right; this item unintentionally misrepresented Target's E.C. policy. The post has been corrected. Thanks for the catch!

  • Re: Bathrooms aren't the only issue

[Read the article: Which restroom should transgender people use?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Hey Anon, that's a very good point. I can't think of any great reason to identify transgender folks by their birth names as well as their present-day names, except for circumstances in which a person's previous identity is relevant to the story. I for one will quit automatically including birth names. Thanks,

  • Thanks qiwihead

Of course, readers are correct that Mass. voters elected Democrat Deval Patrick to replace Romney. Broadsheet regrets the error and will correct the post.

Thanks to readers for pointing out what appears to be an erroneous interpretation of study data by the Associated Press. That quotation has been removed from the post, and the post has been updated to explain the removal.
