[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well, I'm not sure I agree that attractive intelligent people are necessarily better company than plain old intelligent people... but I wasn't saying it was a bad thing that Danica McKellar is gorgeous as well as brainy. I was saying it struck me as weird that half the space on the conference schedule was devoted to pictures of McKellar's gorgeousness. Whether or not it's okay to judge people based on how attractive they are, it does seem silly to judge a math conference on how attractive its panelists are. And if the hot panelist were a guy, I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same way.

Soon after the story was published, the mistake was caught and corrected, along with several other errors in the story itself. Salon regrets the errors and will publish a formal correction shortly.

I can't think of any great reason to identify transgender folks by their birth names as well as their present-day names, except for circumstances in which a person's previous identity is relevant to the story.
