That's not the only bit of Obama-Clinton news for the day.
Oh Christ, Thank God!! I was beginning to think we might have to spend an entire day with only a single piece of vitally important news addressing how much Obama values and cherishes the existence of Hillary, and what a wonderful, terrific person Hillary is, and how lucky the world is that Hillary is in it and that she has decided to bless us by serving as our Secretary of State. I can't tell you how apprehensive I was that we might have to endure an entire Hillary-free news cycle, and spend yet another day pretending to give a shit about America's manufacturing sector going down the toilet, and the stock market heading into depression territory, and Obama sinking his own presidency by kissing Republican ass, and deciding that torture and habeas corpus and kidnapping aren't such big fucking deals after all.
What really makes me sad is how many greedy, insensitive people there are in this country, self-centered ingrates who would hesitate to make a generous contribution to pay off Hillary's campaign debt, thus risking the unspeakable possibility that Hillary might have to dip into her personal 100-million-dollar stash. But, hey, sometimes you have to just accept human nature for what it is and turn lemons into lemonade. Here's a thought: how about if Joe Biden offers to cut up Hillary's pant suits and send a swatch to all those who pledge to donate $10,000 or more to the Hillary Campaign-Debt Retirement Fund? Just imagine, all those voters out there who could finally bring their Hillary reliquaries to life with their very first holy relic, a big piece of brown polyester that personally rubbed up against Hillary's ass throughout the 2008 campaign!
What the fuck is going on? Was some new holiday announced today, some Groundhog Day variant where commenters compete to see how many times they can regurgitate the same impossibly vapid and witless observations, no matter how meticulously their fundamental logical inconsistentcies are pointed out to them?
Lancemiller777 kindly points out that
Choosing Warren represents diversity. That is what Obama just said in the press conference responding to the cries from the intolerant on the left.
Holy shit. Is that supposed to constitute some of argument? Is someone - anyone - supposed to be persuaded that the inclusion of Warren represents diversity because Obama says so? Or that those who oppose his presence are intolerant because you say so?
Glenn has earned my enormous respect for the sheer persistence of responding to this kind of idiocy on a consistent basis in the past, but this is really going above and beyond the call of duty.
Gee, I haven't heard a goddamn thing about the fact that Don Seigelman continues to rot in prison, or the rest of the non-Republican Party victims of the Bush/Cheney Justice Department. Sure is a relief, though, that Obama continues to know how to crawl on his belly and suck Republican cock in the name of "bipartisanship" though.
Let’s face it, it’s simply ludicrous to expect rational thought from a being that absorbs half its nutrition from the connection between its tongue and Rush Limbaugh’s asshole. Just look up its letters; the very first one starts out as follows: “If you go to the trouble of actually reading what Obama said, he wasn't preaching about redistribution of wealth or reparations. He was preaching about rejecting our Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights.”
On the other hand, I find a good measure of satisfaction in the fact that with every election, the American public continues to enthusiastically spit in the face of Old Poor Richard and the rest of his filthy herd.
As to the continual threat of Republican filibusters, Walterx2 and Elydog are right; the fault lies with the craven, unprincipled ciphers of the Democratic Party. There should never – NEVER – be another filibuster allowed without Republicans being forced to spend every second on the senate floor making their obstructionism apparent to the American public. This “bipartisan” shit has to come to a complete and immediate end. The latest hustle, though, is the pervasive fairly tale about how all our progressive dreams would come true at last if only the Democrats could somehow reach the magical “60” senator threshold! Bullshit. As though it would ever take more than 30 seconds to secure the votes of reliable corporate hacks like Ben Nelson, Evan Bayh, Blanche Lincoln, Jay Rockefeller, and the rest of the Bush Dog pack.
It seems to me the answer is for progressives to aggressively assert their independence from the DLC and the rest of the Party lapdogs for the banking, insurance, pharmaceutical, and telecom industries. Let’s make it 57 senators instead of 58, and let’s start with the biggest enabler of Bush, Cheney, and the Republican assault on civil liberties: Harry Reid. There is one thing – one thing only – that modifies the behavior of these scumbags: fear of losing. If progressives demonstrate that we're willing even to elect a Republican rather than enable the continued treachery of a whore like Reid, it will send a powerful message to the rest of “centrist” Democrats whose political existence is devoted to enabling Republican fanaticism and destroying any and all progressive influence on the Democratic Party.
