  • Why we watch sports

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We all say that we watch sports to see those rare times when a player plays above his (or her) talent, comes through in the clutch and wins an exciting game at the finish. But, just as entertaining and something we hesitate to admit that we like just as much, is when we watch someone or a team choke. It is live human drama. Far better than any script written by Hollywood for the movies or TV.

King, You should give out an award at the end of the year for the greatest choke job for the previous 12 months. You have to admit that Gonzaga is the leading candidate so far.

  • English as America's language

    [Read the article: Immigration demagogues]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm OK with lots of immigrants, but I think it is important that English remains our primary language. If you want to come to America, you should be willing to speak English. Is that too much to ask?

  • Words from the great philosopher King Kaufman

In the game of life, most of us are Devil Rays.

  • Make the goal wider

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is written by a basketball/baseball/football fan who was forced to watch six years of his son playing soccer.

My simple answer to how to make improve soccer is to make the goal bigger. I do appreciate the flow of a soccer game now more than I ever thought possible, but I do not understand why they can't make the goal bigger to increase the scoring.

I know that I read some where that goal-keepers used to average 5"6" and now they average 6', which makes the scoring more difficult.

Can anyone in the soccer-loving world explain to me why making the goal bigger would ruin the game?

  • Why not Corner Kicks rather than penalty kicks?

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Does anyone know if the soccer Gods have ever considered deciding a game by corner kicks rather than penalty kicks? Keep shooting corner kicks until someone scores. At least the entire teams would be involved.

  • Pierzynski trade for two all-stars and a starting pitcher

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It cracked me up that you threw in a comment about the Giants trade for A.J. Pierzynski. Everyone here in Twins country have been laughing about that trade all year, but I didn't realize that the rest of the country was in on the joke. Just for the uninformed:

To get AJ, the giants traded Joe Nathan (all-star closer), Francisco Lariano (All-star and future Cy Young Winner- if not this year than some multiple years in the future) and Scott Baker (starting pitcher who needs to improve).

The real kicker is that the Giants gave up these pithers and then only could keep AJ for one year!

By the way, the rumor is that no one knew that Francisco was going to be so good. He was a throw in on the deal since he was hurt when the deal was make. I have heard Terry Ryan talk about this and he just laughs and says sometimes you get lucky - which supports your column today.

  • King picks the Twins

Damn! That's the Kiss of Death for my Twins.

  • How do we get a college FB tournament?

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

OK Smart-boy. How do we get a college football tournament? What exactly needs to happen to make this a reality? Do we need to hold hearings in congress? Do we need riots in the streets?

I personally think it will take a presidential candidate to make it part of this platform. Where are you when the country needs you Obama?

  • My wife told me so

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This Imus thing has been bad for me. I occassionaly watched Imus in the morning while I was eating breakfast and my wife was getting ready for work. I only watched it if he had an interesting guest. My wife watched about five minutes of him a couple of years ago and immediately decided he was a jerk which she mentioned more than once when she saw that I was watching him.

She has been very happy to remind me of this during the past week.

  • Garnett is another Dirk

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]

Everything you said about Dirk can be applied to Kevin Garnett - another "superstar" who disappears in the fourth quarter.

    God I hate the Timberwolves.

  • Does this paragraph make sense to you?

Despite Stern's claims that the NBA's refs are the best, most scrutinized arbiters in the world, fans have for years taken it as a given that NBA officials are second San Francisco period is that in the very near future fans will routinely protest a close call going against the home team by chanting "Don-a-ghy! Don-a-ghy!"

  • By the way...

King, Welcome back. I missed reading your columns as I ate lunch at my desk.

  • Hoping for a non-coastal world Series for a third straight year.

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    King,

I know that you don't care about this sort of thing since you left the heartland of America for the Godless left coast, but I am hoping for something to happen that has not happened since 1906-1908 - three years of World Series where the teams come from states that do not touch an ocean. In 1906, Cubs vs White Sox, in 1907, Cubs vs Tigers, in 1908, Cubs vs Tigers, but I'm sure that you knew that.

So go Cleveland and (Cubs or Arizona)!

By the way, just for the record, I consider the Golden years of Baseball to be 1990 to 1993: Cinncinati, My Twins, and two years of the Blue Jays. Not a California team or New York team as a winner.

  • I have been betting on Hucklebee for months

[Read the article: A "loyal Bushie" surveys the field]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I have been saying that Hucklebee will be the republican nominee for months and I cannot figure out why he has not taken off. I think the explanation that he has a funny last name and that he is tainted with the Clinton dust from Hope AK are as good as reasons as any why is not one of the leaders.

  • 23% of Americans disapprove of mixed marriages?!?!

[Read the article: Good times for liberals]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The article states that it is a positive development that 77% of Americans now approve of marriages between whites and blacks which means that 23% of Amercans disapprove of mixed marriages. I am stunned that 23% of Americans in 2007 still thing it it is wrong for blacks and whites to marry. Of course, I am stunned that 23% of American still approve of George Bush. I'm thinking that it is the same 23 %.

  • the Cleveland Mosquitoes

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I hope that Cleveland will take the opportunity of them winning the World Series to change from a racist name to the name of the insect that helped them beat the Yankees.
