So where is your husband in all this?

Did he stand there like a mute while his mother's bile and spittle slid down his face? Has he ever stood up for you to his family against their venom? Does he have balls, or are they sealed in a jar and locked in some magic cabinet in his mother's kitchen?
That's pretty important information for getting an encompasing response. Going with what we have in your letter all we can say is do what you can to reverse your superstitions, tell your husband to get a spine, keep your kids away from this woman, and take comfort in the fact that your m-i-l is mortal and will one day be dead.
