"Brilliant?" No, but plenty screwed up

Before I begin I'd like to say that the letters sent to this column almost always seems bogus. And that Cary Tennis is one of the looniest advice columnists I've ever heard of.

This letter is another one that's hard to believe. It's written in the style that all the letters submitted here seem to be; long-winded, filled with minute details, culminating in a desperate plea for help.

If this peculiar 20 year old actually does exist I feel sorry for anyone who had the misfortune of having to be around him. He appears to have severe psychiatric problems, the most obvious being narcissistic personality disorder. Thoughout the letter he yammers ceaselessly about his endless talents and abilities. Why, there's no subject on earth that he can't master! He's told while in high school that his skill at creating video games revealed him to be a "visionary" and that he would one day drive a Ferrari. Over and over he reiterates how "brilliant" he is (he doesn't sound that "brilliant" to me; he sounds like a conceited, insufferable jerk), that he's a strapping 6 ft.3 three inch chick magnet who has the wherewithal to do or be anything. Only problem is that he doesn't know what he wants to focus on yet. Boo hoo!

Cary Tennis's advice is what he usually dishes out here; new age gooniness. "Wander. Know that you are a creation of the universe." "You are a worthy person, a wanderer, a soul on a journey." What drugs is he on, I wonder?

If this ego-bloated, whiny, 20 year old dipshit really exists the best advice anyone could give him would be to urge him to see a psychiatrist. Maybe that would be "the key to the treasure chest."

Original article: It's time to forgive Serena

"They're picking on Serena because she's a rich, powerful black woman!"...what CRAP!

"It's time to forgive Serena!?" Like hell it is!

Apparently Kate Harding believes that Serena William's abominable behavior is just a tempest in a teapot, and that the dear young lady is being unduly picked on for being rich, black, and female.

What stunning idiocy.

This wasn't an isolated incident. The Williams sisters have immense egos and hot tempers and when something doesn't go their way they tend to expode. So all that garbage about this tirade being "of the moment" is pure bull. And Serena Williams didn't quickly "regain composure"; she continued to be combative after confronted and at the press conference after her blow-up she was surly and defensive. When asked the question "what did you say?" she spat "didn't you HEAR?"

And it wasn't a trivial incident. Telling a lineswoman that "I would like to take this fucking ball and shove it down your fucking throat" is NOT trivial. It's disgusting, vulgar and threatening. And extremely disrespectful to everyone who had to witness it. Serena Williams disgraced herself and the sport of tennis.

As for the playing of the race card...does Harding think that if a male, white player did what Williams did there would be no repercussions? Or that any penalties or fines would be less because the player is white and male? If she does, then her paranoia about race and the sexes is really getting out of hand.

Harding feels that Serena made a little boo-boo but apologized so hey, so why not just stop picking on her and forget the whole thing? I suppose she feels the same way about Michael Vick; yeah, he tortured and murdered dogs for fun and profit for years, but hey we all make mistakes, and he apologized so why not forgive the poor guy and let him play football and make millions of dollars again?

Doesn't matter what color or sex you are; if you're an athlete and you break laws or rules, then punishment is required, harsh punishment if necessary. And it's certainly necessary in the case of Serena Williams.

I'm sick of excuses being made for inexcusable behavior. Serena Williams deserves whatever punishment she gets.
