  • What is the Political Resolution?

[Read the article: Bush and Cheney's tortured secrecy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"If history is any guide, the resolution to this constitutional clash is likely to be political, not legal. "

    Mr. Cole,

By a political resolution, are you referring specifically to impeachment?

My feeling is that the only way to correct the Bush administration's abuses of power is to impeach, beginning with Cheney. Conveniently, Dennis Kucinich has introduced a bill. HR 333, to do just that.

There's a good chance the Supreme Court would side with Bush on executive privilege, so the only way to bring the administration's misdeeds to light is for the House to impeach. In that case, my understanding is that the House judiciary committee would become a court of impeachment, and they would have the ultimate authority to decide what witnesses to call, what questions to ask and what evidence to demand, and no one in the executive branch could refuse on the basis of executive privilege.

cautious provided a quote from Madison that gives a sound basis for impeachment:

"[I]f the President be connected, in any suspicious manner, with any person, and there be grounds to believe he will shelter him, the House of Representatives can impeach him; they can remove him if found guilty…" -James Madison

The web site cautious provided, http://impeachforpeace.org/impeach_bush_blog/?p=2463

    has these additional quotes:

"Using the power of the presidency to "pardon crimes which were advised by himself" or to "stop inquiry and prevent detection" of crimes is an impeachable offense.

Madison made these comments at the convention to ratify the Constitution.

Bush's repeated invocation of executive privilege seems to be just that - sheltering people who have done something wrong to protect himself.

If the Constitution and the law are to continue to mean anything, and the dangerous accumulation of power and loss of accountability in the Executive branch are to be stopped, the House must impeach.

If you want this White house held accountable, contact the following members of the House of Representative along with your own U.S. representative.

[Read the article: "The Simpsons Movie"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I want to. I have always thought the Simpsons was the most brilliant thing on TV.

Being a hyper-conscientious current day parent, I'm just wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether this would be OK to take a couple of 12-year-olds to. I'm a bit concerned about the giant penis sight gag.

    Thanks

And I take it you are going to skip your flu shot, since they are only for the dimwits who believe in Evolution? I'm sure this is over your head, but the legitimate posters will get it.

  • Congress Has PTRD

[Read the article: Rush Limbaugh and the "phony soldiers"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The reason congress condemns MoveOn and that it won't condemn Rush, is that they are still pandering to the ditto heads and are scared to death of being associated with the 60's anti-war movement. They are suffering from post-traumatic Rove disorder. We need to talk about this so we can finally get over it and realize the hard core no-nothing right is in the minority now.

  • Moral Relativism

[Read the article: Quote of the Day No. 2]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Isn't that what the right wing always accused liberals of? What could be more arbitrary than the "bad situation" comment, or anonymous' brilliant analysis, that hey, stuff happens?

  • The right wing attack machine

[Read the article: Al Gore wins the Nobel Peace Prize]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Has anyone noticed the number of posts on various stories about Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize that seem to come from the right-wing slime machine? Have the interests opposed to fighing global warming (the oil companies and all those with a vested interest in the Iraq war) been organizing their minions for this day, because they knew he would win?

(OMG! Gore is getting some validation and recognition that might lead to actual power, which would eat into our profits)

They took the electon away from him in 2000 using every trick in the book and the Republican - staffed Supreme Court.

They must be very, very afraid.

  • Impeach

[Read the article: It was a joke (we think)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Why have Bush and Cheney not been impeached already?

There is an impeachment movement. 100,000 people marched on Washington last month calling for impeachment and the news media barely reported it. Congress is unwilling to do anything. People think you're a nut if if you bring it up.

    I don't get it.

  • Bush, Cheney and the Constitutions

[Read the article: It was a joke (we think)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Constitution also says that when the U.S. ratifies an international treaty it becomes law. That didn't stop them from violating the Geneva Conventions, did it? And since when has the Bush administration had any respect for the authority of Congress?

That, and all their other violations of the Constitution as well as their two stolen elections convince me that they are capable of anything, even suspending elections.

Call your reps and senators and tell them to impeach before it's too late.

  • Where are the Trolls?

[Read the article: It's not just Giuliani]

I think they finally gave up. Who would even want to try to defend Hunter's comments?
