Once again Glenn Greenwald nailed his argument, but he glossed over one very important aspect of the McCain collapse; his fund raising. Huffington listed spending as her bonus reason for McCain's difficulties, but in fact it is the primary reason why his campaign is currently struggling. However McCain's spending is not the reason why he collected so little in donations. Had McCain collected the kind of money in donations that he was anticipating he would, then he would be doing quite well right now, even with his level spending. And his poorer than expected draw in campaign donations is linked directly to his support for the Bush W war.
McCain has always relied on support from moderates and unaligned conservatives, since he has always billed himself as a straight talking maverick, and his support for the status quo in Iraq hurt him tremendously among moderates and political conservatives who have issues with the Republican party. McCain's error was in confusing moderates and unaffiliated political conservative with the Republican base. Both Democrats and Republicans can learn from McCain's mistake. The moderates and conservatives who do not consider themselves blindly faithful Republicans will not give a full monatary endorsement to a conservative (or right of center) candidate who supports the Bush W war.
This is a very sad day for American intelligence communities. Almost as sad as the day when we heard that over 50 navy Arabic translators had been discharged solely because they were gay. Apparently the current US government (specifically the the Executive and Judicial branches) sees patriotic gays, minorities, the political left, and everyone else who prefers honest government to be more of a threat than terrorists are.
U.S. District Judge John Bates, appointed by Bush in 2001, also denied the GAO (General Accounting Office) to sue Dick Cheney for access to the records of the energy task force, and he would not allow defense attorneys to see secret evidence that would possibly have proved that their client (US born Abu Ali, 23) was wrongly arrested by the US Government and sent to Saudi Arabia as part of the "extraordinary rendition" program (a program that the Bush administration uses to send people to other countries where they can be tortured). In other words U.S. District Judge John Bates is a "Loyal Bushie Hack."
I am certain that women, minorities, anyone who leans even slightly politically left, and anyone who loves the US constitution, government oversight, and checks and balances in government, will quit the CIA and other intelligence gathering bodies in mass, because they will not want to have their careers ruined or have their patriotism questioned only because they disagree with the Executive Branch's policies or agendas.
Lets hope a higher court sees reason to act where the Loyal Bushie, I mean U.S. District Judge John Bates, failed to restore integrity to America's intelligence communities, because otherwise we may start to enter a very dark age for American intelligence gathers.
The Philip Elliott and the collective work of TEDDY DAVIS and LINDSEY ELLERSON (the kindergarten story) both printed misleading news about Senator Obama on the same day. Talk about a 1-2 punch from the media right.
I thought news reporting was suppose to be politically impartial, but apparently distortion of quotes and facts is all a part of the business. Senator Obama must make the righties of the news frustrated, because there is nothing that they can pin on him. Senator Obama didn't want to appoint a criminal to head the Department of Homeland Defense like Rudy did in his Bernie Keric suggestion. He didn't claim to be a varmint hunter or flip flop on his pro-choice stance like Mitt Romney did. And he doesn't live in the fantasy world where he believes a stroll in a market in Baghdad with a security force of 100 soldiers and 3 attack helicopter proves that the escalation (I mean surge) is working in Iraq like McCain did.
You know the righties in the news world are getting desperate when they take quotes out of context. For the record, as already noted, Senator Obama has made it clear that he supports education for little kids so that they can learn what is sexual abuse (age-appropriate sex education for all students), so that they can report it if it ever happens to them. And he said that; "We would be deploying unilaterally and occupying the Sudan, which we haven't done. Those of us who care about Darfur don't think it would be a good idea," which is to imply that occupying a nation with forces to prevent genocide won't work, and thusly is not a part of our military strategy anywhere. Genocide is a serious threat that needs to be dealt with through multi-lateral international pressure, not through more unilateral violence.
To be fair to Philip Elliott, he does represent Senator Obama correctly in his article, but the title of that article is what could be considered libel (which unfortunately is all that most conservative pundits will rant about). Senator Obama does not support appeasing genocidal regimes as the title implies.
TEDDY DAVIS and LINDSEY ELLERSON title; Sex Ed for Kindergarteners 'Right Thing to Do,' Says Obama is even more misleading and, unlike Philip Elliott, they neglected to point out that Mitt Romney told Planned Parenthood that he supported similar education in 2002.
