I am pretty sure Jesus was gay. He lived in a time when the Greeks and Romans had made Homosexuality socially acceptable, and he was unmarried at an age older than 30 in a time and place in which unmarried men would have been seen as peculiar.
And what was with the whole kiss thing that Judas gave Jesus? Was that part of lover's tiff? Was Judas jealous of one the other apostles for becoming too close to Jesus?
If Jesus wasn't gay then, he certainly seems gay now. All those peace, love, and brother-ship hippy dudes have got to be gay (or so my coworkers often accuse me).
Bill Richardson and Chuck Hagel
Though, the 2 close friends of Obama may already have been assured of getting the Sec. of State and Sec. of Defense post (respectively).
I am amazed at how meticulously, and intensely, your position is thought out, which will ultimately destroy the Democratic party, especially if you live in a swing state (Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Colorado, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, or Minnesota).
How much do you hate being aligned with Black people in a common future goal? If your hatred of Obama is so strong, then I fear that a progressive/feminist movement in America is doomed to failure.
However, remarkably you and I may soon have some common ground; if Obama loses I will blame the Democratic Party, and my enthusiasm for it, which is already pretty low, will evaporate entirely. I will not give my money, time or support to a Party that never gets anything done. You appear to have turned your back on the Democratic Party, and I will likewise, if Obama loses.
"No matter who prevails at the ballot box in November, John McCain or Barack Obama, the four-decade-long conservative counterrevolution is over."
That line was so incredibly stupid, I didn't bother to read the rest of the article.
So, McCain doesn't represent a third Bush term? So, McCain would not appoint more Roberts and Scalia type Supreme Court Justices?
Michael Lind, you are either an idiot, or in deep need of professional help. In any case you should not be writing for salon.
Increasing this site is giving me reason to quit my membership.
As I travel around the feminist and pro-Hillary sites (odd union, considering that Hillary has never been much of a feminist) I am confronted with a lot of "Obama won't win unless" articles, discussions, and arguments.
However, I wonder why feminists and the pro-Hillary die hards aren't writing articles, or having discussions about what will happen if Obama doesn't win and, conversely, If McCain becomes President?
If Obama doesn't win, I think it would be safe to say that the Democratic Party would be finish, and it would take decades for another progressive party to rise from its ashes. A third Democratic defeat, coupled with the publics dissatisfaction with the Iraq war that the Republicans some how managed to avoid, would prove (once and for and all) that the Democrats can never get anything done, and its fragile coalition would be shattered irreconcilably. The African Americans, the gay rights crowd, the women's rights crowd, the college educated liberals, and the near socialist thinkers would, after a third Democratic failure (and six out of the last eight), go in separate directions, forming their own caucuses, or aligning with the party in power; the Republicans. Can you really imagine African Americans (who are increasingly become more socially conservative) voting in 2012 for the party that failed them so miserably in 2008? Why would they not find common ground with the party that ran Lynn Swan and Ken Blackwell in 2006? Like wise for the college educated liberals, who are not going to sit around with their thumbs up their ass for four years, they are going to work with the party in power (just like they did with Reagan and Bush in the 80s).
That would leave us with the socialist thinkers, the radical feminists, and the homosexual community. Does anyone ever think that is going to be a winning coalition?
I could list off all of the reasons why feminists, gays, and socialist thinkers desperately need an Obama victory in 2008, but why go to all that trouble?
If you all want to sabotage Obama's campaign for the White House, get to it, you all have that right, but in the end it won't do you all any good at all.
Personally I am honor bound to follow the orders of whoever is Command in Chief, which I am hoping will be President Obama.
I have been waiting for a long time to see a woman obtain the Medal of Honor, as I am sure that there a lot that deserve it (especially from the stories I have heard).
Might I remind you that the character played by Meg Ryan died in that movie, self sacrificing herself for her men?
As a man who has actually been placed under the command of female officers, I know how to recognize strength in women. I see a lot of strength in you AKA Smith. To make a long argument short, I didn't see the strength I wanted to see in Hillary Clinton. In fact I saw her as very self serving.
For the record I have always said your were sane and intelligent.
I just think you're angry in that very emotional, womanly, sort of way (nothing wrong with that), and I am staking a lot on that your anger will pass.
In the office pool (of when your anger will dissipate) most have picked late July, a few picked early August, and a few picked late June (and I got July Third, the day before 4th of July).
