leftychris and BadReligion, my letter was my personal proclamation that I am not going to live in fear. Yes I am aware of that there have been cases of false accusation that led to wrongful prosecutions and possibly wrongful convictions. But the number of men who have been falsely accused is far and in between, and since I know I am not a pedophile, I don't feel I have anything to worry about regarding false accusations, so I am not going to worry about them. That was my point.
I understand you guys' concerns, but I think it would be better for you guys to supply solutions to what you guys are concerned about, rather than spread paranoia. The odds of a non-pedophile getting falsely accused of child molestation are virtually nil. Does it happen, yes, but what's more likely to happen; a child molester/rapist getting off due to poorly planned prosecutions or legal procedural technicalities, or a false child molestation accusation getting hurled at you?
I'm not worry about the later at all, but the former gives me great concern, because child molesters and rapists that get off are certain to do their evil deeds again, and thus give women and children more reason to fear all men.
BadReligion in your comment about ""Satanic Panic" cases of the 1980s and 1990s," I have absolutely no fear of that at all, because, as you said, they happened in the 80s and 90s. If that was something that was going on today, I would be worried, but it's not, so I'm not worried.
Give people credit BadReligion, people are a lot more sensible about what is off-the-wall, impossible, and just plain outrageous than they were 10-15 year ago. Though I agree with you there are a lot of religious nuts out there, but I doubt a bad prosecutor is going to be able to get 12 of them on a jury panel.
"I don't have Asperger's syndrome. I have a syndrome whose symptoms include fear of being falsely accused of molesting a child, which leads to arrest, possible prosecution, possible prison time (with all that that entails), financial bankruptcy, divorce, loss of employment, and social shunning. What do you call that syndrome?"
Answer; paranoia. DurianJoe, from your comments and letters you seem like a nice guy, so you really shouldn't fear false accusations.
I highly doubt you are a pedophile, and I further highly doubt that you flirt with teenagers, so take my advice, stop being paranoid, and stop worrying about child molestation accusations getting hurled at you, because the odds of it happening to you are less than 1% if you are not a pedophile and don't flirt with teenagers.
There are a lot of things worth worrying about, such as rising health care cost, rising higher education cost, outsourcing of American jobs to third world slave labor factories, free floating nuclear weapons left over from the cold War era, the war in Iraq lasting much longer, the degradation of America's infrastructure, America's preparedness for intended and natural disasters, Al-Qaeda safe havens in Pakistan, rising global anti-Americanism brought about the neo-con's shameful and disastrous foreign policies, dependence on the world's rapidly depleting oil reserve, and of course deadly heat waves and rising ocean levels due to global warming caused by CO2 emissions from America's addiction to SUVs, but false accusations of child molestation should not be high on that list, because if you're not a pedophile and don't flirt with teenagers, then it is statically not going to happen to you.
