Not particularly funny!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]As a straight man who also likes football and Snickers (or at least chocolate), I also found the homophobic humor offensive, and Like Molly Willow and King Kaufman I am ready for Homophobia not to be funny anymore, because I never found homophobia funny to begin with.
When I talk to my friends they all say they found the Snickers commercial more galling, like watching a train wreck, than actually funny. Few people slapped their knees after seeing 2 idiots pull hair out of their chest, and most asked why didn't the other guy just break the candy bar in half before taking a bite out of it.
My question is why can't advertisers make jokes at the expense of homosexuals, without resorting to homophobia?
Here's something that I think would have brought knee slapping. Picture 2 rough looking men working in garage fixing cars. The 2 men are as straight looking as they can possibly be with love handles, balding heads, and bad skin. One of the men unwraps a candy bar with romantic music playing in the back ground. The man's eyes close as he raises the unwrapped candy bar to his mouth, and the camera closes on his face. When the bar is about to touch his tongue the man opens his eyes to see the mouth of the other man at the other end of the bar. The men then look menacingly at each other, and then race chomping down the bar until their lips meet. When their lips meet the 2 men are startled for a moment, but then realize that they have found their soul mate, and then start passionately kissing. The message of the commercial would then read or say "Snickers helping lovers of all stripes find their soul mates."
Now that would have been funny, and no one would been offended.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Before I begin let me state I am a man, but I'm a feminist (in the regard that I think women are superior), and an Anerican serviceman (Navy, but hey I still got to the Gulf if not Iraq). This is another shameful legacy of the American-Middle East conflict, but more than that it is a blight on our own national character. I thought as civilized westerners we were above persecution of women, and could behavior with a level of respect to all fellow humans. Obviously the way our military is set up makes us worse than the terrorist we are fighting, if our female servicemen are more afraid of getting being raped by America GIs on their way to and from the latrine more than they are of combat with the enemy. At least you know what the terrorist intentions are, but apparently every man in the military may or may not be a rapist. Personally I'm disgusted, and I think we all need to write our congressmen about this issue.
If we can not depend upon our arms services to keep us safe, then we are completely without a defense, and a military that can not protect its own servicemen, can not possibly be depending upon to keep the homeland safe.
From the top down our entire military needs to be addressed, because badly needs reforms are in order here. No female service should have to work under fear of sexual persecution. Reporting sexual misconduct should not be an ordeal, and removal of ill behaved individuals should be a quick process. The military institution itself is the problem, and in these dangerous times, we need to have a military we can depend upon.

Marginalize FOX NEWS, by staying away from it.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]The only way Democrats would ever get a fair representation on FOX NEWS is if Roger Ailes was replaced with someone who was non-ideological. FOX NEWS at its core is designed to soften the Democratic/Progressive position, and the only way to change how FOX NEWS presents its programing would be to change its structure from within, and that will never happen while Roger Ailes works there. Self respecting liberals, progressives, unionist, pro universal health care advocates, environmentalist, and secularist avoid FOX NEWS like it was the plague, so potential and incumbents Democratic candidates should make an effort to marginalize the effects of FOX NEWS by Banning it altogether until Roger Ailes is replaced.

Debbie Schlussel Should Be Ashamed of Herself

[Read more letters about this article: Here]The 2 lessons we should have learned from the Virginia Tech massacre is that our nation's law enforcement needs more training in how to lock down an area where a violent crime has been committed, and that openly racist individuals such as Debbie Schlussel need to be confronted immediately before they are able to sprout their hatred in an effort to encourage more violence. We have suffered enough as a nation by the events on April 16, 2007, and inspiring racist backlash will only make the travesty worse. If an American of European ancestry commits a horrible crime, we do not allow all white Americans to be blamed for the offense, so Debbie Schlussel should be ashamed for trying to foster violent disposition against everyone of any kind of Asian heritage.
Debbie Schlussel is worse for our nation than Cho Seung-hui is, because at least we learned about our security weaknesses from him, where as the hate monger Debbie Schlussel only gives us more outrage.
Debbie Schlussel should not have any voice in the American discourse, and I call on anyone sponsoring her sludge to immediate cease giving her hate support.
I hope congress writes something that condemns her shameful actions immediately.
