  • Truly Amazing!

    Throughout the Iraq fiasco, Dubya has consistently used his interpretations of history analogies to justify his war. His war justifications are essentially justifications to continue the violence, which goes in line with his most recent description of success in Iraq; "Success does not mean no violence."

    What's amazing is that his interpretations are incredibly inaccurate, and they consistently change. At the beginning of the Dubya war, the Pentagon, the Neo-cons, the conservative news pundits, and the Bush administration went to great lengths to dispel any comparisons or parallels drawn between the American Viet Nam involvement and Operation Iraqi Freedom, because they knew what Americans wanted the least was another Viet Nam War. Amazingly Dubya is now embracing that comparison and parallel that has been drawn. Dubya unwittingly acknowledged that his poorly thought-out decision to overthrow Saddam has created another Viet Nam like quagmire for America.

    However, he (Dubya) is being disingenuous to the anti-Dubya war Americans (of which we now number in the high 60%), in that few anti-war advocates want a complete withdraw from Iraq. Rather we want a timetable for a phased redeployment of troops, which was exactly what the Democrats in congress submitted in a bill to the president, that he promptly vetoed, just prior to "the surge."

    A complete withdraw from the Dubya war would indeed lead to situations in the Middle East that would be very similar to what happened to South East Asia after Saigon fell to North Vietnamese forces, but experts had warned the Dubya administration that a US led invasion of Iraq would only make the region more volatile. The US involvement in Viet Nam is what led to the rise in power of Pol Pot, not the fall of South Viet Nam, just as the current American presence in Iraq has emboldened the terrorists, made the Sunni areas of Iraq terrorist safe havens, brought a pro-Iran government to power in Iraq, and has encouraged Syria and Iran to become less Democratic.

    Dubya is trying to deflect blame for his failed Iraq policies onto the Iraqis themselves, and it looks like large segments of the American constituency will actually buy his argument. Which will of course justify further violence, overseen by Americans, in Iraq.

    @BD, Jim, and Robert Franklin

    I hope you are not equating the dubious failing leadership of Iraq to the Founding Fathers of American, because that would be appalling. And I hope you are not paralleling today's terrorists (both Sunni and Shiite) of Iraq with the soldiers that fought for American independence. The South, North, and central colonies came together as a united force in 1776, which is very unlike how the Shiites, Kurds, and Sunnis are operating.

    The closest analogy to Iraq is the Balkans, and like the Balkans, I think Iraq would be better off partitioned along ethnic lines. We need Richard Holbrooke to negotiate a similar accord for the Kurds, Shiites, and Sunnis that he helped hammer out for Bosnia (and Richard Holbrooke most likely will be the next Secretary of State, if a Democrat gets elected president in 2008).

    The horror of Dubya's "stabbed-in-the-back" war myth speech is that enough Republican politicians on the hill will buy it, which will force either a budget showdown with Democrats, or another opportunity for the Democrats to give Dubya exactly what he wants; more funding for his already lost war (which is the same thing as ass raping America).

    So, either the military suffers because Democrats can't pull the Republicans' heads out of their asses, or the military suffers because the Democrats have no spine. Either way the Democrats get blamed for what Dubya wont do, cutting our losses and admitting defeat.

    The reality of the situation is; how much are we willing to lose with this bad poker hand that Dubya has dealt for our entire nation?

    We can fold now, or keep raising till there are no more chips left, but all card are face up, and we are going to lose no matter what.

    Denying that the war in Iraq is a lost cause, isn't going to chance the fact that it is a lost cause.

    I say cut the funding, because if I am going to get ass raped no matter what I do, I don't want to pay for the horrifying experience and then get arrested for soliciting prostitution afterwards.

    Get that America, Dubya and his Neo-cons are asking for more money to ass rape you. Are we not tired of the first ass raping "the surge" gave us?
