What a load of crap
[Read the article: The "Girls Gone Wild" creator's comeuppance, Take 2]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Quote, from "apology": "I was not -- despite what some readers may have been led to believe -- honestly equating [etc]"
Quote, from original article: "Wait -- you mean [his attacker] tried to profit off sexual exploitation and humiliation? What a monster!"
Sure seems like you're equating it to me. You call his assault sexual exploitation and humiliation, rather than an assault, which it was (assuming the allegation is true, which is an assumption you made as well).
Also, rather than apologizing, you merely try to bolster your point by saying that some of the women in his videos have alleged that their participation was involuntary (though you provide no evidence that any of their claims stand up to scrutiny). If this were true, it might further your original article which did indeed imply that the actions were equivalent. This exposes your lie. It's not an apology, and your tone and your words clearly show that you resent having to give it.
Did these women you speak of allege that he used a hidden video camera or something?
More likely, their friends/family saw/heard about the video and they were embarrassed, and tried to sue. I have very little tolerance for attempting to litigate your own bad judgement, but I have even less tolerance for people who cry exploitation whenever a woman allows herself to be photographed. Rather than promoting women, it demeans them by implying that they have no will of their own, and should therefore be protected.
Get off it. This is the 21st century, and in America, women have the right to choose to allow themselves to be photographed in any way they desire. To imply that women who choose thus are being exploited is far more degrading than an image of their breasts being captured on celluloid.

Officiating went both ways
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sure, the TD call was bad, but,
1) There's nothing to say that UT wouldn't have made a TD anyhow. At the least, they had a good shot at a field goal.
2) On the next drive, UT intercepted the ball, but the play was ruled incomplete. I'm surprised, nobody's mentioned this so far. USC scored a field goal off of this drive.
3) As others have pointed out, it's not as if the game would have played out exactly the same if the call had gone differently. Even so, if that's what makes you happy, take away the 6 points for the UT TD (remember, they missed the EP), and the 3 points for the USC FG, and you have a tie game. The bad calls cancel each other out.
Bottom line, it was a great game, and both teams have a lot to be proud of.

Hmmm......
[Read the article: He's sorry, MoDo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We're only hearing one side of the story here really, I have to agree with Feist. Seems they both have behaved like asses. Steins story has a ring of truth to it, although I think he's polishing up his involvement a bit.
However, taking him at his word, Stein is definitely the bigger ass. Okay, she didn't accept your apology. You're worried about her reaction to flowers, so you decide stalking her is the thing to do?
If she's really too petty to accept your apology, be the better person and walk away.
Really, this guy is either incredibly dense, or he's actually doing this out of revenge, not sincere contrition! Seems most likely he gets a little thrill out of being the "bigger person", and proving it over and over again.

P.S. -

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Joel, when your friends call you up to say Maureen is in the restaurant with them, do they say something like -
"Joel, Maureen's here. Should I send her a nice bottle of Chardonnay? I hope she accepts your lovely gesture in the way of an apology!"
Or something more like
"Hey, that bitch Maureen is here, how about I shove another bottle of wine in her face for you? [snicker snicker]"
Funny guy you are.

God talks to me too
[Read the article: Pat Robertson: God is punishing Ariel Sharon]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]God talks to me and she told me that she gave Pat Robertson a really small penis, and she wishes that she had endowed him more generously so he wouldn't feel the need to give away all the things she tells him in confidence. "My bad," she says, whenever the subject comes up, with a genuine tone of sadness in her voice. I don't think she's joking about it.
But then sometimes she laughs and says that she gave his wife a really big vagina to make up for it. She cracks me up. I can't stay mad at 'er.

Worse than you think
[Read the article: Alito's bad luck]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Something I haven't seen mentioned here is that there were more split decisions than you might think to look at the votes.
The Chief Justice gets to assign the opinion if the vote goes his way (but not, if it doesn't). Therefore, he has an incentive to switch his vote if he sees he is going to lose. Rehnquist surely employed this tactic many times. So some of the votes that were 6-3 were also split, even though it doesn't look like it on paper.
The media accounts that look only to the 5-4 decisions to speculate on which may have gone differently show how effective a tactic this is.
