  • AIPAC Leaks Require Prosecution

[Read the article: AIPAC ruling a blow to press freedom]

My understanding (based on James Bamford's excellent article on the neocons' attempts to create a pretext for war with Iran http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/10962352/iran_the_next_war), suggests strongly that these guys need to be prosecuted - not for leaking to the press (which may be the administration's reason for pursuing them), but for being dangerous spys.

While I agree that journalists shouldn't be pursued for publishing government secrets (with some exceptions), I'm not sure that this case is a good rallying point for those wanting to protect the first admendment.

  • I saw passion in Obey

[Read the article: Congressman loses it]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

People who don't know what to do, do what they know. Long time members of congress draft and sponsor legislation they think they can get enough votes to pass (i.e., they do what they know). Obey and Pelosi are doing what they know.

The video seems to demonstrate that Obey really wants to end the war and he honestly engaged with these folks. They didn't like what they heard about "lacking the votes", but there is a measure of truth to it.

At the end of the day, it would be more productive to confront members of congress who are against getting out of Iraq. Let's see if they engage honestly with anit-war protesters or "lose it" as the headline implies.
