You mean, for the first time in eight years, the members of the other major party in the Senate and House are willing to work with the sitting president?
We're not used to this.
Have you figured out Obama isn't the deity we all thought he was? Imagine that! I'll back him because he's my president but I think I'm going to be saying, "I told you so." a lot in the coming four years.
On a lighter note, Ms. Pelosi said that abortion programs should get money from this stimulus package because children are "a drain on the economy" also. Was anyone else shocked by this statement? Seriously.
I don't mean to pick on you but it's a pet peeve so don't take it personally.
Clinton was not impeached for having sex with Ms. Monica. Of course, that is not illegal. Clinton was impeached for lying about it under oath before Congress. That is illegal and a felony known as perjury.
Now, to everyone else who seems to be perhaps a bit clueless I have one question:
From the time Obama first became politically active to this very second in time, when has he ever been anything anyone could ever call "center??"
The green technology everyone thinks we should have doesn't exist. Where are the many thousands of acres going to come from for all of these wind and solar farms that are going to supply our electricity? Do you think the Sierra Club is going to stand around and let the government fork over public land? If we gave the entire state of Oklahoma over to windmills we'd be getting somewhere. Understand what I mean?
Viable electric cars are YEARS in the future. 2015-2020...maybe? Do you have any idea what they're like now?
Talk of "green energy" is fine. I'm all for being more green. However, people are wanting things that do not exist at the present time. They think it's just some money and a year or two away.
I applaud the new energy-saving upgrades to existing buildings. Many buildings from Local all the way up to Federal level urgently need better insulation. Money given to current efficient technologies also get my applause.
Pipe dreams get no applause. You can be angry if you want. It IS my money we're talking about.
Do you people really think all of this clean energy is just a few years down the road? Don't you realize the timetable of all of this energy replacement is measured in centuries?
Wow. Reality bites.
Anyone want to talk about the fact that if you break a CFL bulb in your home it's the equivalent of an industrial mercury spill? :) (See EPA guidelines for cleanup procedures. How many of you have cut up your carpets over it?)
My main point is we need to watch what we're doing very carefully and keep this in the confines of reality. We've already crossed that line more times than I care to count.
If you really think there is even the possibility that our children, or their children, or even 50 generations hence, will find the world unlivable due to global warming I think you've fallen out of your tree and either need some professional help or, even better, a daily dose of REALITY for about a month.
Maybe you need to get outside more.
I wish you the best and will hope for your complete recovery.
Palinphobia rears its ugly, hateful head once again.
What is it about her that totally scares you out of any decency you may possess?
By the way, I didn't know Bristol was so cute. It must run in the family. I can't imagine why you would think she should be totally at ease and infinitely articulate in front of a national audience for the first time. I also can't imagine why you seem to hate her so.
Your opinion, Ms. Traister, and the opinions of most of the letters written in response, leads one to believe the left's great show of words like "equality" and "compassion" and "tolerance" is just a big bunch of happy horse shit. When you start talking or typing or whatever, the real truth comes out. It never fails. That is why you are so divisive.
The hate present here is simply astonishing. The main thing missing here besides, tact, diplomacy, decency, tolerance and common sense is shame. You have no shame. That is disgusting.
"Wall Street speculators steal from pensioners as our government bails out the thieves; employers pilfer from workers with the help of labor laws that undermine unions; oil companies profiteer off products that are warming the Earth; and heath insurers jack up premiums and ration coverage."
Let's see...
I assume you're talking about the stock market with the first one? If not, I have no idea. Everyone knows the stock market is a hit or miss proposal.
Labor laws that undermine unions. Unions finished the turn from an asset to a liability around 1970. After that, the only thing they provided the United States was higher labor costs. High labor costs are the number one reason industry took a hike. I think that's enough said about that.
Oil companies profiteer off products that are warming the Earth. You mean products YOU buy? You don't think oil companies should make a profit from what they sell? LOL (C'mon, that's wayyyy out there.)
Hea(l)th insurers jack up premiums and ration coverage. Well, you know the fastest way to curb that as well as I do: Drastic limits on litigation. Litigation is The Evil Terror that affects us all in the most adverse ways possible. That is the single thing we could do to see health care costs, among so many other things, drop at least 40 percent _in the first year_.
Other than that, I thought it was a nice whine session. Are you going to write something else and maybe propose some solutions?
