Readers might remember that shortly after the 2001 anthrax attacks, there were a spate of microbiologists reported dead around the world. This triggered some Crazy Conspiracy Theories, of course.

Some of the deaths were more suspicious than others, and some of those who died in strange circumstances (like Set Van Nguyen, a 44-year-old microbiologist, was killed when he was “trapped in a chamber full of leaking nitrogen” at a CSIRO laboratory in Australia) were perhaps just junior workers, etc. But it remains an interesting line of investigation, particularly when thinking about global patents and potential undercover agents in this field. I mean, it's hard to imagine the CIA and KGB would not want to recruit some of these guys (is that why the FBI investigation looks so bumbling?).

Hey, what's your problem sport? This is all part of the post-911 world - everything has changed, remember? We've gotta work on the "dark side, if you will". Dick said so, and the USA nodded tacitly in agreement (see 2004 vote results etc).

If that means bumping off a few scientists, or driving them to suicide, who cares? History will judge us kindly (just like history would have judged the Nazis kindly.... if they had won WWII). A few innocent people must die so that millions of shareholders can live in obscene affluence. A few more innocent people must rot in military gulags so that the Elite's grip on power is not diminished.

The extra time Ivins spent in Suite B3 after hours is very interesting, particularly as it started in mid-August. Still, he did less than 15 extra hours that month. And if Ivins really believed, as many others did, that Al Quaeda might have anthrax, surely that would explain his late nights in the lab after 9-11.

Perhaps his colleagues and family might have some idea why he was doing the extra hours. The FBI said he was not able to give them a credible reason, but I haven't yet seen any more detail on that. It is all still very circumstantial.

We are told that Ivins was "under pressure to assist a private company that had lost federal approval to produce an anthrax vaccine". Might not that pressure explain the extra hours?

Why is that not credible, given the other evidence of his depressed state?

Tom Feeley, the author of Information Clearing House (a top antiwar site which publishes lots of "news you wont hear on CNN") has been threatened by three men armed with guns in his own kitchen. A big story at ICH today (linked at my moniker below) suggests There Is Going To Be An i-9/11 And An i-Patriot Act:

Amazing revelations have emerged concerning already existing government plans to overhaul the way the internet functions in order to apply much greater restrictions and control over the web.

Lawrence Lessig, a respected Law Professor from Stanford University told an audience at this years Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference in Half Moon Bay, California, that “There’s going to be an i-9/11 event” which will act as a catalyst for a radical reworking of the law pertaining to the internet.

Lessig also revealed that he had learned, during a dinner with former government Counter Terrorism Czar Richard Clarke, that there is already in existence a cyber equivalent of the Patriot Act, an “i-Patriot Act” if you will, and that the Justice Department is waiting for a cyber terrorism event in order to implement its provisions.

I do not mean to detract from all the fine work being done on this blog. I am not sure what we can do for Tom except disseminate this story far and wide.

Things are getting weird. Now we know how our parents and grandparents felt when they killed JFK.
