The media needs a regime change.
Exactly right. It's all well and good to blame NYT or WaPo, or other media outlets, or even to single out individual reporters which abhorrent records. That's great stuff.
But the real problem is the billionaire media moguls who actively support and encourage this militant neocon line. FOX NEWS CEO Rupert Murdoch is only the most prominent and vocal of these corporate propaganda kings. These guys belong to a social elite whose actions are barely scrutinized. They hold secretive meetings at places like Davos and Sun Valley. They protect their peers from public pressure, and pump fortunes through political campaign back doors.
But how do you achieve "regime change" in media? Politicians on the Lobbyist money trail are not even talking about changing media ownership laws, unless it's to further loosen them. So it's down to consumers to boycott the bad guys and support new media alternatives. Like Glenn Greenwald! LOL
What's really ironic is that these media moguls are driving their own newspapers into the ground, while sitting resolutely silent on the biggest scandals of our times.
I have seen that story of Totten's doing the rounds and it is pure bullshit. Michael Totten is not to be trusted.
On the subject of Georgia, did you see that Cheney's man Joseph R. Wood was in Georgia just before the invasion? Link at my sig.
Kristof today apologizes to Dr Steven J. Hatfill for fingering him as the "Mr Z" anthrax killer, saying that despite winning a court case lodge by Dr. Hatfill, he still feels a moral obligation "to express regret for any added distress from my columns". No mention of paying court costs, I note.
And Kristof cannot even admit this without pretending that his false allegation was a great help to the FBI investigation:
In retrospect, I was right to prod the F.B.I. and to urge tighter scrutiny of Fort Detrick, but the job of the news media is supposed to be to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. Instead, I managed to afflict the afflicted.
No mention of resignation, I note.
'Put yourself in my shoes' pleads Kristof, presenting readers with three totally fictitious ethical dilemmas. 'Being a journaminimalist is hard work!'
Kristof invites readers to comment on his blog or facebook page. But then if you go to the blog he says you should actually be posting comments at the story itself. And of course you can't post on the story itself unless you register with the NYT, which might help explain why the first six comments to date are full of sycophantic empathy and Zionist drivel. PS: I know Denver has been exciting, but can we get back to hunting down anthrax killers and their government accomplices PLE-E-E-E-E-E-ASE GLENN? Or how about that NIST report? As an Arizona Republic reader wrote yesterday:
The two biggest mysteries since the Bush regime has been in power have been solved: the 47-story World Trade Center Building 7 collapse on 9/11 and the perpetrator of the October 2001 anthrax attacks. And it only took them seven years to do it!In early August, the FBI announced that they knew who did the anthrax attacks. A mad scientist in the bioweapons labs. But, unfortunately, he "killed himself" before any evidence or a trial could determine his guilt. Case closed.
Last week, the final report and conclusion about the Building 7 collapse by the National Institute of Standards and Technology found that a "new phenomenon" caused this massive building to collapse perfectly in just under seven seconds. It said that never before in history has this "phenomenon" occurred and never before had a steel-framed building collapsed due to fire.
So there you have it, America. Both mysteries conveniently solved. No need to question either of these anymore. Just go about your business.

It would be great if either of these bizarre stories could somehow become election issues. Otherwise they are both likely to disappear for another six months.
Totten is a self-described neocon (see his Wiki entry at my sig) and keeps very unhealthy company (see his blog links at footnote [1]). I could say a lot more but that should be enough for anyone who has been paying attention for the past 8 years.
