  • TV's triumphant overclass

[Read the article: TV's triumphant overclass]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

How disgusting that people are effected by the lure of starter castles and wealth. How sad.

This kind of mindset was present in the 80's when working people would "put on the dog". For example, a friend of mine told me of relatives who, instead of having the usual backyard barbeque, would make "special" dishes that weren't much different from hospital food, as he said.

I remember being on an airplane and having a young woman next to me with jewelry on you could practically see through - almost like costume jewelry - but she had to make the material statement and put her nose up a bit. Sad.

  • The Trouble with the Wahabbi

[Read the article: Big Think: Ayaan Hirsi Ali on the clash between Islam and the West]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is correct about the problems with "Islam" today and about solutions being in the hands - or minds really of individuals.

The Wahabbi mindset is sick and twisted, but many muslims - like many posting on this site - will not denounce it. It's like having a psychotic relative living in the attic during the day who roams the neighborhood at night killing and maiming those he considers unworthy. Yes, this relative is sick and twisted, but he's "family" so let's pretend he doesn't exist.

  • Ayatollah Comes Out

[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Ayatollah is correct about women being featured as sex objects to sell anything and everything in the West. What else in new? But two wrongs don't make a right, and his obsession to keep women "veiled" as second class citizens (or worse) is disgusting.

  • Tale of the American Taliban

[Read the article: Huckabee's radical religious friends]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I haven't read most of the other posts, but Huck can be called a member of the American Taliban - the other side of the fundamentalist coin championed by Islamic Fundamentalists.

Huck hired a great PR man - Ed Rollins, who will probably tell him to put a check on the "Christian" fire-breathing until after the election. Then Huck can rant and rave like his Islamic counterparts in the Muslim Brotherhood.

Happy days are here again!!! Well.................not as long as fundies rule.

  • Huckleberry Hound as President?

[Read the article: Mike Huckabee hearts Israel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Maybe so. If the Wahhabis can rule Saudi Arabia and the Mullahs Iran why not Theocracy in America with Hucklberry The "Rapture Ready" Hound? It could and may happen.

As Mel Brooks has said, "What a World!"

  • Joe the "Rapture Ready" Freddie

[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If Joe didn't love to attend all those "Rapture Ready" conferences, people would probably take him seriously.

  • Nader's Ego only Helps Republicans

[Read the article: President Nader? Maybe third time's the charm]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The only people Nader helps are Rich Republicans and other people who benefit from the corporate con-man's game called our "Global Economy." How? By taking votes away from the Democrats who at least oppose - to some tiny degree - what those addicted to greed are doing to the majority of people in the world.

Nader's anti-corporate point of view is fine, but his disgusting need to be on the ballot is sickening. It only strokes a sick ego.

  • The Trouble with Huckabee

[Read the article: The GOP chases its tail]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Huckabee's personality is fine with me and I think he will speak for the average blue and white collar working person. Two positives.

However, I want to live in a Democracy and not a Theocracy. As a result, Huck is not the man for President.

  • Hardcore Conservatives

[Read the article: Requiem for a right-wing dream]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

After all the failures brought on by the Neo-con mentality, it's sad and disgusting to read about this convention of hard-core conservative nut-cases like Malkin and other right wing extremists. Yet here they are - as crazed and deluded as ever.

  • Disney Know What It's Doing

    [Read the article: Tween bees]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

My cousins let their children watch Disney, so I watched a bit last summer when visiting. Their kids were entranced, but the slick material is such "flash and trash."

Occassionally, a "behind the scenes" segment was run and I remember seeing one of the people who directs the kids on stage. He looked about 25 - 30 years old - like a big kid. Creepy.

My son is 15 and didn't grow up watching this crap. For that I'm thankful.

  • How Much Space Does One Need?

[Read the article: Help! I'm a prisoner in a big suburban house!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

McMansions and Starter Castles seem to be everywhere, but the majority of people live in much more modest houses or in apartments.

My son is 15 and he says there are two basic types in his high school - "rich" and "snobby" kids that live in the McMansions, and hip-hop or gangsta wannabes who live in poor sections of town, basically. We live in the middle and I have no problem with that.

When I grew up as a kid in 1950's and 60s America, the really rich were isolated and the vast majority of people mixed well as blue and white collar workers. Now we have the McMansion people thinking they are "rich" and our country continues to become more divided. It's a shame.

  • Our Economy Stinks for the Vast Majority

[Read the article: Real and/or unreal: The economy is hurting]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Even before the Housing Credit scam the majority of us in America were screwed.

We produce nothing anymore to speak of in the US since millions of good paying jobs were outsourced to Third World countries, to workers who make dirt cheap wages and include children. How shameful is the mouth-watering greed of some.

There will be no recovery from this. Only the few at the top in each country will become filthy rich. Everyone else must lose.

This is how the "Flat Earth" and "Global Economy" must and does operate.

  • Yes, The Archbishop is Over the Edge

[Read the article: The troublesome priest]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Yes, the Archbishop has gone too far, but I think I understand: he must have been wistfully remembering a glorious time in Church history......way back during the Spanish Inquistion when "heretics" were routinely put on the rack and burned at the stake. As a result, he felt a palpable affinity with Sharia Law.

  • I agree with the "oops"

[Read the article: The troublesome priest]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    @RENASCENT

You got me there with the historical facts, but I still think this archbishop would feel right at home with burning a few "heretics" at the stake. How else to understand his affinity for Sharia law?

The women of Saudi Arabia get a regular taste of sharia as do people wherever the Taliban rule.

This archbishop could use some reformation on a grand scale.

  • Money Always Talks

[Read the article: Some hateful, radical ministers -- white evangelicals -- are acceptable]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Money always talks or screams the loudest in America. I think some of the "Rapture-Ready" crowd is loaded and wields political influence as a result. Is it any wonder that, then, that Tim Russert will not speak against them?
