If the drop happened in the 90's...

If the drop happened in the 90's, then I would say fear of AIDS was a big part of it.

Sure, AIDS "happened" in the 80's, but as a high school student in the late 80's, I can tell you it didn't really register that white, hetero kids could get it. Only gays & minorities got AIDS in the 80's (attitude & perception, not truth. Relax, people).

By the early to mid '90s, the truth had dawned on people, so much so that even invincible high school kids new the danger was real. Sex could kill you.

Maybe they ran out of things to check...

The writer states they must pick 10 things they don't like. 10 things is a lot. Picking things you don't like eliminates possibilities. These men want to meet someone. So they pick the 3 or 5 or 8 things they really don't like, and then they say "darn, I got to pick more. Hmm... clean. Yeah, I like clean women! That seems like a no-brainer."

I think the writer is reading too much into this.

Edges rule!

I love brownie edges, and especially corners. (I also like bread crusts & muffin tops) My wife loves the middles. This arrangement works quite well, as you might imagine.

For me, getting this pan would be selfish.

Original article: Mission: Seduce my husband

So if he resists...

If the targeted male spurns the temptress's advances, I don't suppose THAT ends up as evidence in court, huh?

This is just sleazy. As if women don't already have the upper hand in a divorce.

What's the big deal?

You drive a car. I drive a car. Our cars are *slightly* less bad for the planet than Hummers are. Get over yourself.

Less workers = less lunches

I'm a software engineer. I was recently laid off from my full time job, and I am doing contract work from home.

When I worked at an office, my co-workers and I would go out to lunch every day - Souplantaion, Chili's, etc. $10-$15 each day for lunch.

Now that I'm working at home, even though my income is only slightly less, I'm eating at home. Lost $$ for the restaurant business.

Multiply this by the number of lost jobs, and there's a big chuck of the restaurant industry's woes right there.

On the plus side, I'm eating much healthier. :)

Original article: Boobs, bulimia and breakups

@rennet - re: editors take note.

It's because the vast majority of what's written in BS seems so nit-picky and trivial that men (well, this man) think "THIS is what feminists think is important? Really?"

Original article: Sushi cows of the sea

That's the reason

We fear extinction of wild species, and at the same time we romanticize the taste of them.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I fear the extinction of tuna BECAUSE it is so tasty. If it didn't taste so good, I probably wouldn't care.

Original article: Clergy say, "I won't"

I'm confused

I'm married. Since we are atheists, we did not get married in a church, and no clergy were involved at all. How does this "I won't" campaign apply? How is any church "in the marriage business" when you don't need a church to get married?

This outrage over Vick is stupid

Look, I'm a dog owner. I love dogs. I rescued mine from the shelter. She's laying at my feet right now.

But this outrage over Vick has to stop. Leonard Little killed a woman. A human woman. He played in the NFL after his jail term. Where's the outrage there? Donte Stallworth killed a man. One year suspension, he'll probably be back. Cornelius Bennett spent 60 days in jail for rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and unlawful imprisonment. He didn't even get fined by the NFL. There are countless more.

The fact is that Vick is more famous than those guys. His crime got more press.

He did his time, let it go.

One can't control another's actions, only their own.

Was it because you were dressed a little too well, looking a bit too prosperous? Were you just asking to be robbed?

Look, I don't want to blame the victim, but your statement is silly.

In regards to theft, I always lock my car, put my sunglasses out of sight, and don't leave CDs sitting on the seat in plain view. I lock the doors to my house when I am not home. I don't flash cash in public. I put my wallet in my front pocket on the subway. This is just common sense.

Do I think this anti-rapist advice ("don't assault anyone!") will work? Maybe. But I can't control the rapist's (or thief's) actions. I can only control my own. Therefore, I take reasonable precautions, and so should (in the case of this article) college age women.
