There must be consequences
[Read the article: House rebellion: The bailout bill fails]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Until the bill includes the dismissal without severance of all CEOs responsible for the mortgage derivative concept and marketing thereof, a ban on their future employment in the financial or governmental sectors and a distribution of their unpaid severance by the companies to a fund to help the victims of those scams to pay their inflated mortgages, I am opposed to it.

Nice guy
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Funny- I associate Wilson with his character in The Last Mimzy.

wrong
[Read the article: The voters are angry -- and don't know why]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I know why I'm angry. The market has turned into a game of roulette, played by gamblers with a bad addiction to action. Good companies have been brought low as well as bad by raging fears and uncontrolled greed. The stock market has no basis in reality anymore, and maybe no more place in the American economy.

Gives me the shivers
[Read the article: How Sarah Palin blew it]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm surprised that no one has groaned over Palin's invitation to apply a little Wasilla to the country's problems - right, we all want to live in a meth-addicted, strip mall, big box town with a heavily polluted water table and an city staff under personal attack.

Or how about...
[Read the article: Botox soothes women's economic fears]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"...a one-woman household is not going to survive the economic downturn. I'd better find a partner to share the expenses. Time to start taking care of myself again."

What comes next?
[Read the article: Wall Street shudders, again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I agree with Confucius, bearpaw and the other commenters. Our economy has been based on "the next big bubble" for far too long, and that has turned us all into bubble-chasers to the point where we create nothing but Get-Rich Quick schemes. The means of survival are beyond us, much less a decent standard of living. The creation and trade of basic goods has been outsourced and we are useless parasites in the world economy. The rich just got paid off by the Congress, to the tune of 840 billion, and they will retreat to their gated estates, laughing at the rest of us poor schmucks. Can even Obama's success in November keep the downfall of the American dream at bay? Doubtful.

An unreasonable request
[Read the article: It can't hurt to ask]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I did a course a few years back where the first day was all about making "unreasonable requests" from strangers. The point was, that people generally want to be helpful and you would be surprised what they will agree to. It was life-changing, and made each accepted request a miracle, because each stranger became someone who wanted you to succeed. Good article!

Is this actionable evidence?
[Read the article: Major shock: Eavesdropping powers abused without oversight]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If the hundreds of innocent Americans whose Constitutional rights to privacy were violated were contacted to be plaintiffs, could the Bush administration be charged with the crime? Is this underway? Finally, can the whistleblowers be rewarded, so that more come forward? It is past time that the Bushies pay for the damage they have inflicted on us for 8 years!

Don't panic, start planting
[Read the article: Dow disaster -- down nearly 700 points]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We shouldn't be too sure about our social security either. After the fed finishes buying up all the banks, their bad mortgages and the car companies, there isn't going to be much left to send us. So, with the money you have left, I suggest:
-get a small greenhouse, or plow your front yard, buy some seeds and start a'plantin'
-get a dozen laying hens and a nice coop
-a cow or a goat couldn't hurt
-put in a fence to keep above from being stolen
-identify the tools that still work and are not needed and get them ready to trade for coffee and sugar
-hire the kids out for cheap labor
-do what the Mexicans do... leave the family at home and travel to where the jobs are. Expect to do manual labor, because our smarter southern neighbors are headed back home.
-pull out that guitar/piano/saxophone and teach everyone to play - you won't have the money for cable anymore
-get ready to move into your parents house... just in case

@catamite
[Read the article: Dow disaster -- down nearly 700 points]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You have it exactly right - those growing/making the stuff to forget all our troubles will be on top in a barter economy. Where are those seeds I saved from college...

All a part of the plan
[Read the article: John Lewis: McCain, Palin "sowing seeds of hatred and division"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There is no mistake in McCain's campaign. Someone has done the math.
-Plausible deniability took place yesterday, when McCain went on record saying Obama was a decent man.
-No change in smear ads or rally tactics.
-Crazed wingnut shoots Obama.
-Bush calls out the troops he recently stationed in the US for "crowd control."
-McCain takes office by default, succumbs to cancer
-Palin becomes Puppet-in Chief.
-Cheney/Rove/Bush cabal continue control
-We serfs are left to rot

No, really?
[Read the article: Friends don't let friends talk fat]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is unbelievable. My memory of the tri-delts from college is that they were all size 6 blondes with skinny legs and big tits and that's all they allowed in the house. Times have really changed, but even so... the tri-delts?

@Anony re size 6
[Read the article: Friends don't let friends talk fat]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]sure, but that was early 70's. Bulimia hadn't caught on yet.

Aren't we are still getting screwed?
[Read the article: Falling gas prices: Where's the outrage?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'd like to know what the price at the gas pump was the last time oil was $80 a barrel. The gasoline price here is still in the $3.50 range.

Where are the adults?
[Read the article: "Runway's" fifth -- and final? -- winner]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This group as a whole was the most immature of any of the five. And, it was frustrating, after the last group of seasoned experienced designers, most of who were already working for other NYC houses, to see this year's amateurish antics. BUT, I guess they decided that immature is good TV.
I'm really glad that Korto and Leanne made it to the top three - they were the most mature of the lot. I think it was a toss-up, but don't cry for Korto - she will get many opportunities out of this with her gorgeous jewelry and gowns. Like everyone else, I think Kenley needs a spanking. And Jerell would have been great on the runway, but I think they wanted a villain at the end instead of three nice guys. Such is reality tv, even in the quality shows.

Hating to lose their whipping boy
[Read the article: Powell endorsement incites right-wing rage ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If there is anyone answering the description of closet liberal, it's Powell. He has been the "boy" of the Republican Party for so long, the pundits feel just fine getting a few last switches in before he escapes to the only party that represents his interests. Too bad he didn't realize that before Iraq was invaded.
