  • what a maroon!

[Read the article: Quote of the day]

The most obvious joke on this addled neo-con is that Batman, and every other superhero comic, is targeted to adolescent boys. They're pumped full of hormones, clueless at to the actual workings of society and prefer to lose themselves in mindlessly violent, morally simplistic games and movies.

Yes, older guys (and girls) like them too, and comics have also been the refuge of outcasts, artists and misfits, again, loving that imaginary power where they vanquish their enemies without messing with the consequences.

The key word being imaginary here, I find it very telling that this WSJ overgrown adolescent (and Bush, for that matter) can't figure out that the world is not cast in black and white and the issues we face can't be solved with comic-book violence.

  • You had me at P&G funded study.

The majority of US drug research is funded by Big Pharma. Any numbers they produce are suspect.

  • Just common sense

You would think the cities would understand that the hours and materials donated are the citizens giving back to the cities. In this time of paltry budgets and city services cuts, I'm surprised local governments don't come out and ask for gardening help; lots of seniors don't have their own gardens anymore and would love to be beautifying their corners of the world.

  • You can't have it both ways

[Read the article: The stolen election of 2004: Chapter 53]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You can't acknowledge the visual evidence in 2004, and the testimony of computer experts and other researchers into vote fraud, and at the same time, cast the whole issue into the conspiracy bin, and visualize tinfoil hats on everyone. Are you and Farhad just afraid to confront (and research) the possibility that the unthinkable has already occurred?

  • Needing to be mentioned

[Read the article: The Natalie Portman problem]

Liza Minelli practically invented this character, as Pookie in The Sterile Cuckoo. Sally Bowles also qualifies in Cabaret.

  • Just Stop, Please

[Read the article: Why isn't Obama crushing McCain?]

The answer is that this is not the right question. Stop trying to run the election in a virtual world. If these stupid "A is beating B" conversations dominate the space, nothing else about the candidate matters but A vs B.

  • Its a slacker smile

[Read the article: The strange smile of George W. Bush]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

He remembered the answers to the questions that his handlers got ahead of time. Any slacker movie will have a similar scene where the dumb guy gets the cheat sheet to the test and aces it, to the surprise of the teacher. What a doofus.

  • Boo hoo

[Read the article: What does it mean to be an "anti-feminist"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Men are so oppressed! They only have majority control of every state and local and government, every top 500 corporation, every religious institution, ... damn near everything. The history of western civilization is the history of men's deeds, since they were in power and could slant glory away from women's accomplishments.

What a wussie. Whining that his drinkie-poo costs another 50 cents. Whaaaaahh.

  • Ah, yea

magdelyn- you got it right the first time. Anyone blaming their problems on another group hasn't really dealt with their own issues. Man-up is THE issue. This guy obviously can't.

and symbolsix- Dude, he started the hating. I think he should be up to a little criticism, without whining, if he IS a man. But basically, the point is, he's the one with the gender-based lawsuit, not me.

  • Actually, not too farfetched, given the predilections of the current occupant

[Read the article: Christianists gone wild]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I just wonder why the Republicans just don't come clean, a la Ann Coulter, in the platform, and call for the forcible conversion to Christianity of all American unbelievers. It would simplify politics in the country greatly.

    and from Wikipedia:

During the 2004 presidential campaign, the campaign of George W. Bush routinely required all attendants at its rallies to take what some have called a "loyalty oath". Those who refused to take the oath were not allowed to attend the rally.
  • On the other hand

They could be staging this because they need conflict to sell ads and the Dems did not cooperate.
