"Remember the days...when the debate coverage consisted of William F. Buckley and Gore Vidal? The commentary was better than the debates!"
I appreciate the sentiment, but I think RD means covering the conventions not the debates. There were no presidential debates between 1960 and 1976 -- the famous Buckley/Vidal exchanges were in the late 1960s.
I'm guessing that Ben Dover never actually watched the show.
KOQ wasn't a great show, but so what? Let's make a list of great shows since the beginning of TV (there are maybe 5 of them) -- then we can rule out the thousands of other ones. We'd be right, I guess, but what would that prove.
The show was popcorn -- with a touch more. I've watched it more in reruns than on its normal slot (didn't watch the finale). It made an ok relaxation moment after a hard day. I can tell you, I'd rather watch it than lots of other shows on now.
She did ok, but she was screachy on the high notes and flat on many of the lower ones.
She is 17 and can get better, but let's not go overboard.
EDL writes, "Nader helped give the presidency to Bush. Perot did the same for Clinton."
Not quite sure that we can know that Perot helped give the election to Clinton. At the time, Perot voters were equally unhappy with Bush as Clinton voters were. Some polls indicated that a majority of Perot voters would have voted for Clinton if Perot had not been running.
What kind of world has it become when break up blogs are available for all to read?
Good grief. I love the Internet, but this is just silly, and ultimately scary.
I have a good friend who has Netflix and he likes it but complains that turn around has slowed and slowed the more he uses it.
I went with Blockbuster to try something different from him. I've only had one bad DVD and I called them and they sent out a new one immediately.
Turn around is very fast -- sometimes crazy fast. e.g. mailing it out on Monday and getting a new DVD on Wed.
Blockbuster doesn't edit films -- the R rated movie you get is the same R rate movie others see -- however, they don't carry NC-17 films -- but, you know there are very, very few NC-17 films out there. They do carry non-rated versions.
The return to the store isn't a pain BECAUSE you don't have to do that. It is a service that you can use or not use. I've done it once. But it is kind of nice to have that option. Also, once a month I get a coupon for a free game -- my son likes those.
Now, I generally like to go with the less corporate, but Netflix isn't a charity either.
I will be happy to switch if there's good reason, but so far there just isn't.
Sometime soon -- the combination of pay per view and streaming net movies will probably destroy both of them, so . . .
I'm happy to slam this guy for just about anything. But this is standard practice for a manuscript.
Let's agree that a lie or two has been published about this couple in the past.
"Now why would you *love* to listen in on that phone call? When all is said and done, Al Gore will still have won the Nobel prize BUT President George W. Bush will still be known as our 43rd President...it'll all be in the history books. Big deal."
But you just know the repubs and probably Bush himself wish they hadn't fought Gore in Florida.
I imagine they would love not to have "won."
(I know most of the world would love that)
I know most of the world would love that
So, perhaps that was a tad hyperbolic -- still, you have to admit it is hard to dispute rationally.
And, yes, GW will probably be remembered longer than Gore -- but I doubt those memories will be positive ones (he better get to work very fast if he plans to do at least one positive thing before he leaves office).
Actually faith means to be persuaded by something -- it does not mean to simply accept something willy-nilly.
If you have faith in science or god or _____, it means (or should mean) that you have been persuaded by its claims.
Websters might not be the place to start.
The word used for faith in the NT is is the same word in Greek (peitho) for persuasion.
I'm not making a religious argument, or at least a direct one -- I'm saying that religious people who use the word faith to mean some kind of fairy dust that you just happen to have miss the point.
Non-religious people who thing that faith means without reason have missed the point as well.
You can't have faith in something that has not persuaded you. If we have faith in science it is because we have been persuaded by its claims over time. If we have faith in God, the same should be true.
Both of the above examples fall apart because most people have so-called faith in something simply do to an argument from authority.
And isn't it great that these two teams have already played each other this year. It makes the World Series so special.
I so hate inter-league play. Clearly designed by people who hate baseball.
Geez Cary
Man, do I not care.
Uh, no, not really.
I don't dislike him, but that's about it.
Why would anyone? This, folks, is why we usually get such a depressing choice of Presidential candidates -- we drive good people away from public service.
Exactly.
I swear, for every one of you grousing how the right is filled with idiots, I can clearly point at the pinhead left too.
You don't really want us to keep score on that one do you?
