Understanding/sensitivity

I think the point of "understanding" isn't condoning what happened. It's like trying to "understand" the mindset that led to 9/11 and not just going in and cracking heads, bringing civilization to the savages.

Years of Service

I think after 35 years (with a good bulk in public service) we have enough information on the inner workings of John McCain's brain to not need his psychiatric records. I'm saying this as a Democratic voter.

What's a life worth?

On the other hand, if this case deters other dumped teen boys from getting nudie MySpace revenge on their exes, perhaps it's for the best.

Yeah, what's one young man's life if you can deter other teen boys from doing something dumb.

I think taking him into the public square and shooting him in the head would be an even better deterrent.

Wow...

...post after post of hate. I guess the Republicans don't have a monopoly on stupidity. This will all come back to bite us in the ass somehow.

Wiring

And all the fertility/baby reasoning makes no sense unless the young man wants to be a father, which many don't anymore.

It's hard to short-circuit wiring that was selected for over millions of years, assuming you believe in evolution. ;)

Here here

I think the best way for HRC supporters to get over it is for Obama supporters to be as condescending as possible. Then we can all come together and heal. HEAL NOW PEOPLE AND STFU!

Back in the day...

Back in the day, the gap between rich and poor wasn't so large. You could be a doctor and make a little more than a social worker because pretty much everyone made something close to the same amount.

Now, if you're a social worker or teacher you live close to poverty with debts that can eat you alive if anything goes wrong. The social support system is falling apart...

If you have any brains you know the only way you're going to support your family and build up enough wealth so that if a family member has a disaster (cancer or something), then you have to make as much as you can as fast as you can. You become an investment banker or plastic surgeon so you can provide.

You can drive your used car and live in your tiny box of a house in a bad neighborhood with terrible schools and hope you never have an expensive medical emergency (especially during some moment when your don't have health insurance) or you can strive to build as much wealth as possible not just to live in the lap of luxury but so you can survive any emergency that could befall your family.

Honestly, I hate that life in America is that way, but it is what it is. You can sacrifice yourself and your family for ideals and "love" of your profession or you can try to provide for those that can love you back and who depend on you.

Original article: Betrayed by Obama

Better than the other guy

If Obama's only selling point is "better than the other guy" then he's just John Kerry part 2. He was supposed to be much more.

Why didn't I think of that...

...move to a new state (leaving behind family and friends) because my electrical bill is $50 more per month. It was so obvious, I couldn't see it.

I guess Phil Graham was right. We're just a country of whiners.

.

Lutherhouse, you forgot possibility #4. The Sox miss the playoffs completely. I wouldn't bet on it, but it's not outside the realm of possibility.

I don't see any downside to offering Manny arbitration for a team like the Red Sox. The worst thing that could happen is he accepts it, you get him for 1 year for about what you had to pay him for the option and maybe he pouts all year (which isn't too far from what happens now). The money isn't as important to the Sox as other teams.

Probably a guy like Manny will look for a multi-year deal so he can "finish his career" somewhere. Those superstar egos don't like to take a one year contract unless the numbers are huge (Roger Clemens) or they're washed up and just trying to hang on.

Wow, most posters so far are "too cool for school" when it comes to Facebook.

Let me guess. You don't watch TV either.

Skinny jeans...

what's the deal with that? AmIrightguys!?

But hey what about men wearing skirts? I mean we can hardly stand men wearing tight jeans because um... their bulge shows? their legs are ugly? it makes them look gay (not that anything is wrong with that REALLY... I have gay friends. REALLY!)?

Seriously, is there any hope for skirts for men? I don't think we will tolerate anything outside the norm in mens' fashion.

WOW HIS JEANS ARE TIGHT! OMG!

LIES AND MORE LIES

To that Monster John Krich who spread lies like manure on a field of more lies I say this: nice article (just kidding about the other stuff).

*sigh*

The average person doesn't have the knowledge to judge that statement as true or false. Smaller and more efficient sounds good right? And of course, no one (with a big audience) will call her out on it. The Republicans know they can say whatever they want whenever they want.

Original article: Playing the doctor card

Uplifting Story?

It seems like this was supposed to be an uplifting story about one doctor learning humility but I'm filled with a sense of dread over what I may experience myself one day without the advantages of a doctor card to play.

I guess all I can do is say my prayers.

@soylentgreenleftovers

Here here.

We're on the precipice of the next Great Depression and a lot people want to make the same mistake made 80+ years ago. I thought we were supposed to learn something from history, but maybe we're just doomed to repeat it.
