Oh Knock It Off, Glenn.

Don't pander, man, dig deeper next time. Look, I live in Lowertown St. Paul, where an offshoot of the protest started messing stuff up. I'm a proud, proud Democrat, ready to fight for Obama and volunteer, and have zero love for the GOP, and I wish I could get out of town. That said, here's what this group of protesters did: They dragged garbage containers (stone and plastic) into the street, tossed over newspaper dispensers, threw paint, threw road tacks, smashed windows, smashed cop cars, broke pieces of sidewalk, and overturned dumpsters, and bum-rushed cops, all in downtown St. Paul. There were roughly 4-500 of them by my estimation. The cops were absolutely restrained - to me, it seemed like their policy was that unless someone started a fire or assaulted anyone, they wouldn't arrest. There was a chunk of the giant protest that deliberately set off separately to raise hell, and they were more than tolerated. I don't know if Amy was part of this group or not, but the cops (Feds, officers from other cities in the metro area, and Ramsey County's finest) were absolutely tolerant, professional, restrained and even accommodating with this bunch. I followed this group from lowertown over to Rice Park and back again, so I know what happened. You want photos? Here: http://gallery.me.com/dboen#100035. That's what happened.

Glenn (and others)

Why don't you all get it together and understand there are two sides to this story. I'm politically on the side of these protesters actually, but - and especially out to you Greenwald - you think it's cool that this group of protesters did all these things? Don't ignore it just because Amy got arrested - I wasn't even talking about that. It ain't bullshit. It happened. You'll see more footage and photographs as time goes on, I'm not the only one with a camera. This town is full of people who are no fans of the GOP, and no fans of a bunch of punk rock goofballs tossing shit around town. That said, the punks played some great music on their sound systems.

Kitt

Ah, no, Kitt. Here, maybe this will prove my credentials to the likes of you. Walking with these protesters - and for the most part, and as the first part of my photos will show you, enjoying the hell out of it - I ran into some of my friends and neighbors along the way, and we were all having a good time, until the damage started, and one of my pals wondered what pissed them off. I told him I thought it was because most of these kids are of soldier age (I'm 40), and they're pissed because they have friends or brothers and sisters in the war, or maybe they're really scared about military expansion in the middle east, and afraid of the draft - which I know people in their late teens and early 20's are indeed scared of. I was too back in the Gulf War days, where I had a brother in law and my oldest friend, both who came back a little screwed up. That's why I said they were pissed off to the point of violence. That's all I really need to offer. I don't need to prove myself to you.

I think if any of you who don't want to look at the totality of a story were here, saw what I saw, talked to the people I talked to - probably about a hundred strangers over the course of the afternoon - and weren't sitting around speculating idle theories, or weren't spazzed out because one of your colleagues was arrested - you'd probably be thinking differently. There are plenty of good people in this town worried about a large crowd getting out of control. The cops are planning on it going on all week. I want people to protest, I don't want them to screw my town up.

So STFU, Kitt.

Shooter, Little Brother

Shooter, thank you.

Little Brother, go f*ck your pompous little hand. I'm a Democrat, and I'm just reporting what I saw. Too bad if it's not what you want to see or hear.

Kitt, Derbig

You guys are really psychotic. Glad I'm in the same party as you.

Kitt, Derbig

Kitt: Ho HO! Drat! Foiled again! Why, you so cleverly exposed my secret! How could anyone but the cleverest of internet bullies have deduced that, because I've said I'm a Democrat, it means precisely the opposite! Higgledy Piggledy! You have unmasked me, roister doister!

You're such a turd you can't even comprehend that I'm joking. If you do comprehend I'm joking, you will be compelled to tell me my sense of humor isn't any good. Or something else. Just so it's contrary and suspicious. Because you've been bullying and bloviating around here longer than I have and I'm invading the territorial mark you spray around here ever day. You can't be anything but subjective. Whatever. Get f*ckin real. I was only posting to Greenwald to show him what kind of damage was done and to remind him that there are as many sides to a story as people involved.

For the record, I think Amy's arrest took place far away from where all this happened, so, be prepared, this was an entirely different event.

Derbig: You can't outparty me.
