  • Lieberman?

    [Read the article: Other priorities]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Reid needs all of the Democrats, but what about Lieberman? Is he going to be there?

  • The echo chamber that is Washington, D.C.

[Read the article: David Broder's "seriousness"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The "dean of Washington" columnists, or whatever maudlin nickname is used in connection with David Broder, seems to be living in an alternate reality. There's the reality that belongs to the rest of us, and then there's the reality created and maintained by Broder et al. That reality exists because enough of us have failed to stand up and shout "Bullshit!" when necessary. The media have failed this country, profoundly, and we have allowed that to happen. Many "pundits" continue to spew nonsense, and I'm left to draw the following conclusions about it. Either they really believe that nothing they write actually matters, in which case they are even more profoundly cynical than seems possible, or, they are so gripped by cognitive dissonance that they are simply unable to grasp reality. Either way, it's pretty disheartening.

  • Fact check this piece, please.

[Read the article: The Lieberman switch?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Lieberman likes to get attention, and being coy about switching is one way to do that. But two things about this tidbit of information to keep in mind: the committee composition isn't going to change, even if ol' Joe (I - CT) becomes R - CT, so what's the advantage to Joe?

Secondly, Massimo Calabresi wrote a real beaut of a piece last week for Time about bloggers and campaigns in which Thune (South Dakota) was identified as a Democrat, and Tom Daschle was Senate majority leader in 2005, among other gems. Oof. Given that, who knows what Lieberman was really talking about?

  • Hmmmm...This seems familiar

[Read the article: The long search for good news on Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I think Faux News was running a banner this AM that said "Iraqis prefer life now to that under Sadaam.." or something to that effect. I wondered where it was coming from, and I'm guessing it's from this source.

  • Only link I could find to the WH Morning Update

[Read the article: The long search for good news on Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

was through the web site for the U.S. Embassy to Riga-Latvia: http://riga.usembassy.gov/EN/site/Morning/20070309.

I haven't checked through EVERY link on the White House page, but I haven't been able to find anything remotely resembling a "morning update". The Washington Post (online edition) did just post more information about the poll, and it sure doesn't sound like things are looking up there....http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/19/AR2007031900421.html.

  • And of course, Stevens found out about this

[Read the article: GOP senator: Gonzales won't last long]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

from the tubes of the internets...

  • This sentence summarizes it beautifully:

[Read the article: Drudge and the Politico -- poisonously joined at the hip]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If Ron Brownstein and Mike Allen are all reporting on petty matters regarding Obama, that proves his campaign lacks substance. Beltway journalists only talk to each other and listen to each other. They constantly echo what they hear and then mistake that echoing process as evidence.

What happened to them? Did they start out moderately incompetent, and then slide further after the Clinton nonsense? Are they so insulated from the internets that they don't understand what an echo chamber Washington is? It's incomprehensible.

  • What can't the Democrats see this?

[Read the article: Why can't we all just get along?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Could you please forward this to Democrats? And major media outlets, who continue to give John McCain W-A-A-a-a-y more face time than he actually deserves?

  • This is just unfair to John McCain....

[Read the article: Romney feels the love]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Oy. "Presidential hair"?

I haven't watched morning shows in centuries, and maybe this is unfair, but what do you expect of a former ESPN sportscaster? (Who's no Keith Olbermann, another ESPN alum).

  • Not much of a change

[Read the article: Salon's new letters registration policy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't have strong feelings one way or the other--I'm just posting to see how the system works.

Pretty much the way it did before the change.

  • It's window dressing. That's all, because

[Read the article: Karl in the middle]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

this Administration has proven over and over that it will lie, cheat and put incompetent cronies into positions of responsibility. Why on earth would this Bush appointee be any different? The only thing that will come of this is more obstruction.

To think otherwise is to be Charlie Brown, thinking that this time, Lucy won't jerk the football away.

  • Maybe this explains that bizarre "I've got THE math" comment...

[Read the article: All roads lead to Rove -- again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

that Rove made to Robert Siegel on NPR's ATC. If enough investigations were launched, the polls would turn around.

  • He's got it backwards. Surprise!

[Read the article: "I stand by Al Gonzales"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And it is this kind of political theater that has caused the American people to lose confidence in how Washington operates.

Actually, Mr. President, it's exactly THIS</>kind of political theater that is restoring the American's people faith in how Washington operates.

  • Blinking first.

    [Read the article: Playing chicken]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

but only in the as-yet-imaginary world in which congressional Democrats aren't the ones who blink first.

And here we thought, in the reality-based community, that elections might actually have consequences. Instead, we're saddled with leaders who whine "We don't have a veto-proof majority" and who continue to demonstrate a superficial understanding of how this will be reported and commented upon.

It doesn't matter, Harry, that there will be reports filled out, and more chances to hold the President accountable in the future. What matters is today, and here's how it's going to play in the MSM: "Dems cave".

And you will have handed Bush and the Republicans just a little more energy to continue with business as usual. And more people will die needlessly.

This isn't hard to grasp. Why are the Dems so clueless and spineless?

  • Oh, please, don't hold your breath....

    [Read the article: Playing chicken]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am still waiting for the MSM to eviscerate this ridiculous rhetoric.

That will never. Ever. Ever. Happen.

  • It IS really simple...

[Read the article: The president's selective intelligence]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Doesn't matter if the logic is totally flawed, because this all is going to be reported on uncritically by the media. So instead of lots and lots and lots of attention being devoted to the purge at Justice, you have a little bit devoted to Monical Goodling (Who, me? I think I might have crossed a line somewhere, at some point, and at some time, but no one else knew about it, ever......) and a whole lot about Bin Laden and Iraq. It's brilliant in its simplicity. The public hears, reads and views "Bin Laden/Iraq" once again. It worked before, it may work again, because nothing has changed, media-wise.

  • Hmmmm...headline is vaguely reminiscent...

    [Read the article: Biden alone]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Isn't there a nursery rhyme or song that ends with "The cheese stands alone!"

    That's our man Biden!

  • Breathtaking. Truly.

[Read the article: GOP senator blames Democrats for troop deaths]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And as badly as things have gone in Iraq, he said, "it would have been worse if we hadn't gone in."

I can't even think of how to respond to this mind-numbingly moronic statement. Is Demint always this goofy? Or is this temporary insanity?
