If the stocks are very likely to drop in value, why not short the stocks?

How about "Rudy the Coward"?

Let's not forget Rudy's bunker mentality. The concrete barricades he caused to be built around City Hall show him to be a coward. What was he afraid of - demonstrators?

It was Harry Truman, I think, who said "If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen." It is transparently clear that Rudy really can't take the heat.

Silence please!

I like silence when I work out and when I dine.

I consider the practice of playing music in gyms and restaurants I attend to be nothing other than the rape of my ears and mind. The establishments are forcing me to listen to what I consider to be garbage.

Everyone has an mp3 player. Those who want music can listen to their players.

If I wanted to listen to music I could bring my mp3 player.

I often see people listening to their mp3 players in gyms that have ambient music. This means that the mp3 listeners must increase the volume sufficiently loud to drown out the ambient music. They are probably ruining their hearing

In favor of sex trafficking

There actually is a block in favor of sex trafficking of voluntary participants, of which I consider myself to be a member.

So long as the participants are consulting adults, sex trafficking should not be a crime anymore than homosexuality should be a crime.

For those so inclined, commercial sex can be an extremely lucrative occupation. What, after all, is the difference between "trafficking" sports players or sex workers? In both cases the participants are paid for the use of their bodies.

One should have the right to the use of one's body. This is a matter of basic human rights.

In favor of sex trafficking

I meant, of course consenting adults.

How and why to exercise

Exercise is the "magic bullet." Just google the two words: exercise health.

The best site on the net for exercise info is http://exrx.net Check it out (I am not associated with it).

However, a few points:

1/2 hour of exercise a week is all that it takes:

Research has shown:

  • The most efficient way to build muscle is to do 1 set (repeat ONE set) of no more than 12 repetitions to exhaustion. This means you will be lifting heavy weights.
  • When you are capable of doing 12 reps, increase the weight slightly to a level that you can only perform 8 reps. This means about 5% increase.
  • Work out about twice a week. Increase the number of reps when you can. When you increase to 12 reps, increase the weight. (In other words, the plot will have a saw tooth profile)
  • I do 8 exercises. Each exercise takes from 20 to 45 seconds. That's about 10 minutes of exercise performed twice a week.

A few notes:

  • I use dumbbells. That way, each arm does its own lifting. Also, I can get a better range of motion.
  • It is difficult to find a gym with weights that increase by 5% to 10%. Going, say, from 15 lbs to 20 lbs is much to big a jump. I had gloves made with pockets on the back, and insert 1/2 lb slugs. I used tungsten scrap. Tungsten is 1.5 times a dense a lead. A slug the size of my thumb weighs 1/2 lb. (I suppose that I am a bit obsessive.)
  • I eat 3 oz. of protein an hour before the workout. I chop 100 gr. of raw lamb or beef with onions, mustard, Tabasco, garlic and capers, and make a sandwich with whole wheat bread. Yummy.

(I don't buy chopped meat; that would be dangerous. But since I chop it myself, I can be confident that any bacterial load is small. I've been doing this for about 5 years, and haven't had any problems yet.)

Science is my religion

I am an atheist, but also devoutly religious. My religion is Science. Science serves the same function for me that other religions server for other people; it explains the universe.

I am not particularly concerned that Science can not explain everything (yet). After all, we are continually reminded of the "mysterious" ways of God when Christians come upon a problem (such as the existence of evil) that the Bible can not explain. Science is always making progress, Christianity none.

I am amused at the lack of faith of the devoutly religious. If I say "Allah was a jerk," or "Jesus was a jerk," then devout Muslims and Christians become extremely upset - thereby showing a complete lack of faith in Allah's or Jesus's ability to squash me like a bug, or punish me in any putative afterlife.
